I live in texas and want a Saint Bernard?

Does anyone else live in texas with a Saint Bernard? I don't want to get one and then he/she be too hot all the time. Can they adapt to hot weather? Any personal experience with this? thanks

Please don't be selfish and get a dog of a breed that is not adapted to your conditions. St. Bernards are Swiss dogs, adapted to mountainous conditions where it doesn't ever get above 75F to 80F and there is no humidity.
The same goes for snub-nosed dogs; they can't breathe in the heat.
If you want a big dog, check into the different breeds of mastiff.
No, I just put AC in my doghouses and I live in PA. It would be very hard if not fatal for the dog. They are cold weather animals. I have four and in the winter they don't like coming in. They love it out in the cold.
The hot temps. would be hard on a Saint, but there are things you can do to help them adapt better to the heat.
Keep the dog in doors in air conditioning. Limit outdoor time during times of high heat to potty breaks only. Take walks in the early morning and evening when the sun isn't as strong.
Keep the dog groomed good - if you brush out any loose hair on a regular basis, it's that much less hair that is holding in the heat.
Have wadding pools for swimming and cooling off...offer ice cubes as treats..tile and concrete floors are cooler for the dog to lay on..
Lot's of people have dogs that aren't meant for the environment they live in, but being aware of that and doing what you can to make the dog more comfortable goes a long way.
I live in AZ and my neighbor has 2 Saints. It is tough for them, but it can be done in a hot humid climate! Commit to not leaving the dogs outside for any length of time unless you are there and to get a large waterer and you should be ok! Any dog can live anywhere when taken care of properly! I have a large female black lab and it is hard for her here because the sun makes her coat so hot! On the other hand, my dalmation does fine here because he is mostly white. Neither are kept outside and they haev a 5 gallon LeBistro Waterer that is always full and they do just fine!
You can do it! Commit to taking good care of the dog and it will be ok!!
Good luck and I hope you get a good one! :)
Most dogs will adapt to the weather especially if you keep them indoors during the heat. But you might think of another breed that fits you and is more temp friendly.
Also, these dogs drool alot. You bet look into them fully before getting one.
