I just took the dog to the vet with a suspicious lump. How dumb is this?

He's had two operations in the last 18 months to remove spindle cell tumours, so I keep a close eye on him. Anyway, I just paid 20 quid to have a chunk of matted hair and seeds cut out with clippers. Well, I thought it was a lump. Little git.

at least you were worried about your dog, and put your mind at rest, funny though!! you will be laughing about it for a while. when i was younger i had a hamster with a lump and the vet said he was a big boy! i was embarrased. xx
at least you were worried! some people wouldnt have even bothered with it.
good parent!!
Quite possibly dumb. lol
But hey better safe than sorry!
That is good it proves you care it migt have been serious.
I don't know how much 20 quid is but that's just a bit funny! Not for you but in the furture check for dirt first!
LOL. I love dogs.
I'll do the same thing. That show you truly care about you dog.
It is not in the least bit dumb. Better safe than sorry! At least you have now learnt to look for a clump of matted hair and seeds. You normally hear of people leaving it too late to consult a vet. Well done, you deserve to have a good life with your faithful friend.
Better safe than sorry! Besides, a mat like that can cause skin infection anyway, so it's not like it was a bad thing to have it shaved off =P
dump or caring
lol - chasing my tail with delight that it wasn't anything serious!
Please don't insult yourself for being loving.
Oh well- Better to feel stupid than have a dead dog... and if they were grass seeds, then these themselves can cause serious damage. I had to treat a dog who had a 3cm abscess in her leg from a grass seed which had penetrated the skin. She took months to recover fully. You did the right thing!
At least you had it checked instead of something serious happening to the dog...it could have been much worse...good job.
Don't fel silly, out of pocket yes but not silly. Most don't bother and tumours grow back in diff ways of appearance so just know that if it happened again you did the right thing this time and repeat it.
No I'm not your vet trying to make more money outta you lol
p.s hope he stays in good ealth
That's pretty funny! Better safe than sorry though, right?
If it makes you feel better, I have rushed my dog to the vet many times thinking she's DYING, only for it to be nothing.
It happens to all of us concerned pet owners.
You're not dumb at all. You are just a very concerned pet owner!! I wish others on here were just half concerned about their pets as you are yours!
yes that sounds like dogs. I would have done the same thing though, I have had dogs my entire life and I know a tiny little thing can turn into something much bigger. You sound like a great owner though.
you did the right thing man next time just check a little better.
well done for caring anyhows.
Good that you were concerned enough
PS Psst! Wanna buy some grooming gear? ;o)
that's ok. atleast you wouldn't worry no more. as they say, better safe than sorry. ^_^
I don't know, how much 20 quid is either. What I do know is that, you suspected that there was a problem with your dog, and you did the right thing, to take him to the vet. That's what a responsible owner does. I would have been concerned too, especially if the dog had problems with lumps in the past. You cared enough, to make sure that your dog was properly cared for by a vet. I have to commend you for that. I don't think you should be embarrased at all. Regardless of what the situation is, it's always better to be safe than sorry. Good for you for taking the proper precaution and having your dog checked out.
awhhh!
sorry but that's so sweet you cared.
-whispers-
my sister actually did the same.
