I just got a puppy, very young, about 5 weeks. she's bloated and she keeps trying to poop but cant. what can I

Her stomach sticks way out on the sides and she keeps trying to poop but can't. I can't go to the vet until monday, what can I do until then? I think she was to young to leave her mom. Neighbors gave her to me
Answers:
You CAN take her to the vet before Monday. It's called the Emergency Vet Clinic and you should go immediately.
The puppy is WAY too young to be taken away from its mother. It needs the nutrition that the mother provides. Shame on the breeder that did that!
ADD:
Take her back to your neighbors until the puppy is a MINIMUM of 8 weeks old.
Go to the Vet right away. And it does sound a bit young. Anyways, where you live, do you have an 24 hour animal hospital?
take her with her mom maybe her mom will know what to do and if not she will at least comfort her pup.
try to coop up some hamburger and white rice. the hamburger make its appealing for the dog and the white rice is good for the stomach. this has a good chance of helping her go to the bathroom. i did that when i first got my puppy because he had runny stool and it helped him to be more comfortable. i would have her eat that and take her to the vet on monday but it just might make the next day or so more comfortable for her. good luck.
Very young puppies need to be licked and massaged by their mom to poop because they don't have the strength yet.
You're right she is too young to be away from her mom, she needs the company of her siblings at this age.

Take her outside and try wrapping a towel around her belly and massaging very gently, back towards her anus. she should go within minutes.
That is bloat and it is deadly! She needs medical at tension right away. It can lead to the stomach actually twisting and it cuts off blood supply to vital organs. Please call your vet I'm sure they have an answering service
It sounds to me most likely that she is overloaded with intestinal worms. This could actually kill her. Over-the-counter deworming medications will be sufficient to get rid of this many. She needs to see a vet, the sooner the beter. Having just gotten a puppy, you should realize that no pet is free. You should not own a pet if you cannot be a responsible pet owner, and care for her when she cannot care for her self. It is your responsibility to get her medical attention. If you don't have the money to bring her to an emergency veterinarian, you should not have her at all.
Should still be with it's mom for a couple more weeks. It can't digest solid food.
First of all she was way too young to take from her mother. You should never take a pup from it's mom before 8 weeks of age. She may need her rectal area stimulated to poop. That is what the mother does, and since you have her instead of mom you need to take over mom's rule. If she is bloated she also could be loaded with worms. Has she been wormed at all? You need to get her to the Vet because she could also be obstructed. If stimulating her rectal area to poop doesn't work, I suggest you get her to your Vet as soon as possible. Call your Vet's answering service and let them know what is happening. See if they have any suggestions on what to do, or if they want to see her on an emergency visit. The money spent will be worth it, versus losing her.
First off, the puppy needs to stay with its mother for another 3-4 weeks otherwise it will most likely grow up sickly (its on that road already), and will become a biter due to lack of proper socialization. There are some things that dogs learn best from its littermates and mother that we can't properly teach them. I'd suggest you return the puppy to where you got it from and advise the owner of the mother that the puppies and mother need to be de-wormed. Worms cause the bloating and constipation.
If you don't want to/can't take it back, give it some canned pumpkin - real pumpkin NOT pie filling, beans, or mix some metamucil in its food. It should start doing its business after digesting the fiber. As soon as you can take it to the vet where they will do a fecal exam and treat it for worms.
1st id call the vet tell them what is going on and ask if their is anything you can do right now for it. sometimes you can go and buy ppl medicine and give it to them in a much smaller portion. if they say they need to come in then id go but i ALWAYS call and ask b4 and i have 3 dogs.
5wks that pup still needs to be with mom!!
Yes, she was to young to be taken from her momma... 8 weeks is a better age.
The momma usually licks the puppy's butt to help it go.
You might try taking a warm wet wash cloth to the area to take place what the momma usually does.
If that doesn't work since its the weekend call a 24hour vet clinic or vet hospital and ask their advice on what else to try.
She was a bit young and may need to be kept on milk for a bit. I would check with the vet

Right away get a washcloth or paper towel and run warm water on it then hold the pup and gently wipe again and again across her rectum. She may be younger than 5 weeks and still require the 'licking' stimulation that her mom would perform on her butt to get the muscles to do the job. If gently doesn't work, wipe more firmly but don't squeeze or crush her. The mom may have been a little vigorous in her cleaning method so you have to try to do this in a similar fashion. If this fails to produce feces, you MUST call a vet office for more advice!
It is a little natural for a young pup to have a full tummy but straining too much is not natural. You may have to get another cloth and wipe her privates as well to stimulate the bladder to eliminate the urine. If this all produces waste, I would suggest you tell the neighbor that the pups are too young to leave the mother and ask them to take ALL the pups back for a few weeks!
What on Earth are you doing with a puppy that young? Give the pup back immediately. Arrange to have the pup visit the vet as soon as you can - call an emergency vet and until you can get there, the pup belongs with her mother.
Christine is right. It sounds like worms, a really bad case of worms. Look at the puppies gums and see if they are white?? Take the pup to the vet. Don't wait or you may have a dead pupy by Monday. The ones who say you need to stimulate her to pop are wrong. After the pups are about 3 weeks old, they are able to go potty on their own. They do not need stimulation. If it is not worms, it is bloat like others have said. Either bloat or worms, it needs to see a vet right away.
In my humble opinion she is too young to be away from her mom, but that is neither here nor there. What you need to do is get a warm washcloth and rub her rear end until she goes potty. Short sweet and to the point!
