would you like being locked up and left alone for hours on end with no interaction,it's selfish sorry
I really wouldnt if i was you. Dogs need company and this is not very fair
Although dogs have no sense on time so it would matter if you left it for 1 hour or 7 hours!!
The fact is a dog cannot just roam free throughout your house and garden alone.
What about when it a puppy and its still being housetrained?
Or maybe it could escape o even worse it could be stolen.
Do you work full time or part time may i ask?
If you only work part time then i think it would be fine to leave the dog alone for a few hours but if its full time im afraid thats far to long
you have answered your own question.
how would you feel cooped up all day on your own with nothing to do and no company, except go outside to do your business. its not very fair, is it?
get a cat, they dont rely on human company as much as a dog does
It is not ideal but many people do leave their dogs all day. If you are going to get a dog, try something like a greyhound who is happy to sleep - and it is better to get two so they can keep each other company.
It might also be better to get an adult dog of at least 3 years which will be a lot calmer and worry less (and be less destructive) if left on it's own.
(but the way, what's a Welsh terrier? I've never heard of them).
I wouldn.t have a dog flap..but you could build an outside 'run' which would allow the dog some exercise and a kennel so it could get out of the rain.much like a boarding kennel has...the only trouble would be in the early months as they tend to chew everything and can ruin a house in no time. How about a rescue dog which is already house trained.dont just let a terrier out on its own as they are good diggers and can tunnel under a fence in no time..Not sure which breed to choose as I am not a terrier person, have two Labradors...get one...you will have lots of fun for the rest of the day and at weekends.
It would be fine to leave it as long as it can get out when needed,
i have 2 dogs and they both live outside, they have seperate kennels and a 200 foot garden to play in, me and my husband work full time but we make a fuss of them when we come home
my eldest dog is 12 years old and my other 1 is 8 and they have lived outside from before we got them, so yes it should be fine, the only problem i can see is if you only have 1 it may get very bored, so make sure there is enough things to occupy it
Don't get an animal, especially if it is a puppy unless you have time to spend with it. Animals can get aggressive and act out when not given enough attention. Also, it is cruel to leave a dog alone for 7 hours on a consistant basis. You need to be able to spend a lot of time and bond with your dog so that she or he would actually stick around if left to her or his own devices in a field with woods. I suggest you leave the idea alone until you can devote time to your dog. Why don't you get a goldfish instead?
well or dogs are left from 9-5 4 days a week , they are fine but they have toys, and 5 acres to roam. Still when i first bought the dogs i had more time and only worked 3 days a week 9-4 so i wouldnt have bought them if i had been in the sercumstances im in now.
Its realy up to you and if you can provide other things for them to do wjile your gone. Not many people with dogs can spend all day with them. Apart from farmers.
Edit: Also get a trained, grown and adult dog so you CAN spend less time with it with out, potty training it and teaching it things a adult dog would already know
I wouldn't get a dog if I was you, they need a lot of work and attention especially if they are a pup. They are a lot of responsibility and you can't expect them to amuse themselves, they'll find something to chew on and then you'll get mad. Save a lot of heartache and leave the dog to someone who can give them what they deserve, 100%!
Ideally a dog should not be left longer than three hours .They get board and need to re leave themselves
well if you dont really have the time for it right now then dont because puppies need a lot of attention and training.plus leaving it all copped up inside isnt fair for the puppy.just think about it.
If you are planning to have a doggy flap for a brand new dog to use while you leave it for seven hours, you will most likely not have your dog for long. You have placed the dog in a strange environment and his first instinct, if left to his own devices, will be to head straight back to the last familiar place he knew. The dog needs at least a month to become familiar with his surroundings and, more importantly, the fact that you are his owner. If you left him alone on only his second day with you, he would feel no bond either to you or to the house in which you had placed him. If your neighbors discover you are leaving a dog alone for seven hours on a regular basis, you would probably get reported to the animal welfare authorities.
If some ones not home to be with the dog play feed care for it - I suggest you look at your pet options %26 get a cat or gold fish.
Dogs are pack animals %26 NEED human %26 animal companionship - 7 hours a day 5 days a week or how ever many days with no one is not good for a dog - mentally emotionally or physically. -
Dogs get bored loney %26 will distroy things when this happens
- the breeds you mentioned are Terriers - aka 'terrors' they are HIGH energy - you'd need to do ALOT more than just walk it twice a day , plus have you concidered the time %26 effort it takes to train a dog %26 care for one - when healthy or its ill ??
Also if your dog would be running the fields woods etc freely ( which terriers most likely return home from - they are hunters %26 don't think of anything else once on the trail - plus theres large animals of prey nearly everywhere - even other dogs that can harm your dog - then what ??
I used to do this.Believe me, there's nothing worst then see your favorite pet sad.Now I took him to my parents, who own a house with a beautiful garden where he likes to run all day long. The sad part for me is that I get to see him only every 2 days. But he's so happy...
if you are serious about getting a dog, no rehoming centre/reputable breeder would consider letting you have a dog if you are going to leave it that long! its not just the wrong thing to do you could even get prosecuted for it now the new animal welfare bill has come in, the only thing you could do is to build a secure dog run with some sort of shelter in it, but even then I would advise caution as a dog left to its own devices that long is going to get very bored, can you not get part time work, or a job near home so you can at least get back to attend to the dog every 4 hours or so, the only other thing is to employ one of these dog sitters, that come to your house and take the dog out for a walk etc, but they are not cheap at least 拢6 a day, please consider your circumstances before you get a dog you cant care for properly.
Sorry but if you want a dog its best that you are there for it, they need company and love and being shut up or even out in the garden for 7 hours would constitute neglect, you wouldn't do that to a child! - they need regular exercise, much more than once day and after seven hours alone will be pining, and what if there's an accident, and no its not a good idea, i'd love one myself but can't give it the time and space it would need.
you can leave a dog alone for the day if you have to it would be best to either build a dog run in you're yard so it can be outside or have someone walk it half way though the day
even better would be a doggy daycare if you can afford it
I had to take my service dog to work and crated her in the back room I worked a 8 hour shift and gave her a walk in the middle and she was fine
my trainer said it was OK and everything
You should get TWO dogs, not one. Then they can be together and never alone. Get adult dogs, not puppies. And Airedale terriers are the best IMO. But you should not have 2 terriers of the same gender or they will fight. Maybe get a terrier and some other kind of dog.
Offer to look after someones dog for just weekends-the novelty will wear off a bit-but you will experience the company
of a dog. Not a good idea to leave a dog alone all day-it will probably just become depressed and hate you-get a cat and a cat flap so it can come and go at will
Go for it. The pup will be fine honestly. They will sleep for most of the 7 hours anyway. Just make sure that your garden is totally secure so that pup cannot escape. Or alternatively leave him in the house, in a secure room or even a very large crate. As long as he has lots of love and effection when you are home and plenty of exercises he will be a happy dog. Good luck x
Dogs are pack animals and NEED company of some kind, that said you still shouldn't leave them on thier own for this lenght of time, I have 4 dogs and feel guilty about leaving them for 4 hours 3 times a week! 7 hours is far too long, if you can get home to take it out for 20 mins and/or play with it then that's just acceptable, though still not ideal unless you get 2 dogs, but still either come home lunchtime or ask someone to let them/it out for you.
Getting a dog is a huge responsibility and most of the time people tend to treat it lightly. Pets in general needs attention and dogs espeacially. Honestly I disagree with the idea of leaving the dog outside with no one looking after it. Furthermore, if you intend to get a dog, you will probably get a puppy and puppies need extra care at least for the first year. You need to spend a lot of time bonding with the dog and also training it and all the stuffs. So I really wouldn't encourage you to get a dog unless you really have time for it. BUT if you insist on getting one, the best breed you can possibly get is a PUG. They are may not be the prettiest dog breed but they are small and easy to take care and they dun really mind being left alone for a period of time.
I think this a bad idea you can leave a dog along for this long. IT is a bit selfish to do this. They need love and care. If you dont have someone to look after it i would advise agaisnt against it. Dogs need care not left for long time on there own.
Please do not listen to these people saying it's cruel, it's selfish and what ever else BS they can come up with.
Yes, dogs are pack animals, but they also are able to adapt to your schedule. It seems that in the last 5-6 years, more and more people are thinking of their dogs as little humans in fur suits.
There is nothing wrong with leaving a dog alone for 7 hours, especially an adult dog while you work. After all, you have to work in order to feed yourself and the dog, do you not? It's certainly not against any law that I know of to leave a dog alone in the house for that long.
Now, I do know they are passing laws (unwarranted to say the least) regarding how long you can keep a dog tethered outside however. I would check your local laws for that specifically.
alot of people have dogs and go to work. i leave my dog sometimes all day and shes ok.
maybe you should think about getting 2 dogs them they have company.
if not maybe a dog just isnt for you. if you want a pet cats are good and look after themselves. or maybe a rabbit?? you could have it in the house but put it outside when you are at work. (always keep 2 or more rabbits as they like lots of company) You could get a large breed rabbit, much cheaper and easier to look after than a dog.
think about!
You'll never get the YES answer you seek unless it's from an irresponsible uncaring dog owner - but there are plenty of them like you want to be who leave their poor dog at home all day, so it gets behaviour problems, or wrecks the home, or pees everywhere, none of which is the dog's fault, then the owner abandons it or beats it, etc.
It's impossible to leave a dog at home all day on its own without it going mental, which is very cruel (even if you leave toys). Dogs crave and need company as they are pack animals. If you get a dog you will be a cruel person.
You should get a cat instead. Or you should get a cyber pet or a furry stuffed toy dog to cuddle instead.
I don't think by your answer you know much about dogs. So if you crave a dog so much you need to accept you can't have one in your situation, and what you need to do is volunteer at a local dog shelter to look after dogs and take them on walks, which will help your craving, help them, teach you, and stop you getting a dog until you have the sapce and time to look after one properly.
We can't all have the pets we crave - I've always wanted a horse, but it's always been impossible, so to get one anyway would be wrong, and these things we have to live with as responsible adults.
shh!! big secret! MOST dog owners work and they and their dogs manage. I wonder if this is a sutle PETA "nobody should own dogs campain" that people have been sucked into.
In every state I know if the dog has water, food at regular inervals, shelter and is not exposed to dangers or running rampate around the neiborhood you are not going to be prosecuted for neglect (SHEEZE) . Many doggie orented people I know who work have a big fenced yard and a smaller pen or run that the dog door open into so thre is two sets of fence (and air space) between the dog %26 the world (protects dog from teasing kids, stray dogs ect) and prevents the dog from jumping/digging out and getting hit on the road.
Dogs are pack animals, which mean they need to be with other dogs- or in the case of most domestic dogs- people.
Stop being so selfish. Get a teddy bear or something.
I have a dog, I work, like most dog owners!
In this day and age, many owners have to work and most have to work atleast 8Hrs a day. It does not make you a bad owner.
You make the choice and make the most of your time together with the dog.
Dogs dont have any concept of time - 5mins - 12 hours, it does not matter. They will miss you, but you have to get them over that and make sure that you take them out for walks, no matter how tired you might be.
