she also eats her dry dog food whenever she feels like it shes very slim and active

I think every day is too much...cut back to only once a day, 3-4x a week. She should be eating her food more than yours.
Well my friends dog is the same way but he don't eat dry dog food. I guess it's because he don't like it dry, it has to be really juicy and real food. Lol
she will get FAT eventually my neighbor has his dog on steak just like you and boy is she fat
As long as you aren't cooking it in grease or putting seasoning on it. I think, just plain boiled steak, cut into small pieces is fine.
Lucky Yorkie, I wish I could eat steak everyday, especially KOBE...Mmmm.
It isn't necessarily bad for her but she'd be better off with just a good high quality dry food.
yes "GOOD" dog food is fit for human so steak is ok
Giving dogs people food really isn't good for them at all. So I'd suggest just feeding her dog food and ask your vet how often you should feed her and how much.
umm well to let u know i wouldnt feed ur dog any meat unless it is really easy to swallow and if u are saying that ur dog is very slim and active it is not like steak will make ur dog fat just buy ur dog its regular food and u wont have to worry bout it ! 鈽?
I'm no pro on this subject, but as far as I'm concerned that's fine. Dogs originally ate raw meat anyways, the only thing I wonder about is if their stomachs would be weaker to that sort of thing now. But, if she's slim and active it sounds okay to me as long as she does eat dry dog food regularly because it has the nutrients and proteins that are necessary for a dog's diet.
that dog is lucky.
also, such a diet is probably somewhat expensive.
I would also feed her a vitamin supplement that you can get from the vet.
It's recommended by vets that you feed them dog food. They should be eating about one cup per 20 pounds, so you can imagine how much you are overfeeding this dog.
Dogs don't need people food! Think of how far back in this dog's family tree that meat was eaten in this way. Small dogs are especially susceptible to stomach issues. I think you will be getting your dog into more health trouble than it will be worth and shortening her life. The responsible thing to do is feed her an appropriate amount of dog food per day and not letting her "graze" and eat whenever she wants. Talk to your vet about how much they recommend this dog consume.
Good luck!
It is not good to give dogs people food, especially small dogs. It can cause pancreatitis. Dog food is formulated for dogs digestive systems and is healthy for dogs. Not to mention, you do NOT want a dog with diarrhea.
No, I would stick with the dry dog food. Put her on a schedule so when she is older she wont have a weight problem. Small dogs don't need so much sodium in their diet. Make sure she gets plenty of good play time it keeps your dog young and healthy for years to come. I little treat once in awhile wont hurt.
I would really talk to your vet to make sure she's getting everything she needs out of her diet. While it may be fine now, you may be missing something that could hurt her in the long run. You might also talk with other dog owners who own the same breed and see what they do.
You could also search out some dog or breed-related Web-sites to see if they offer any tips.
Good Luck!
It really isn't a good idea to feed your pet "people" food. The fat content in steak is really not good for her. The nutrients found in her dog food is all she needs. They don't have the same taste palates that we do so YOU should enjoy that steak! :)
you probably shouldn't give it to her that often. I know someone who's dog was having artery problems because he gave it to much "people" food. It was clogging the dogs arteries
The problem with eating primarily steak is that it's not providing her with enough complete nutrition. It's like if you ate mostly steak.. are you getting enough fruits, veggies, dairy and all the vitamins that come from those groups?
Your dog is the same way.
If she is eating some dry dog food, that is good.. but she really should be eating MOSTLY dry dog food--or any dog food that is formulated to give her the right balance of complete nutrients.
I can't see it completely harming her, but it could give her some nutritional deficiencies after a while.
dogs can handle a lot of human food. but becareful on how much you give. yorkie's are little and therefore can only handle a few bites each day! i have little pomeranians and too much people food causes them tummie probs and diarhea. personally, dog food works the best for them. it's kind of a trial and error type of thing. the older the dog, the harder those people foods seem to be on them.from my personal experience! some dogs are more finicky than others as well. good luck!
I think cooking for your dog is great but i think you need to add more to her diet. Try to add veggies and fresh fruit to her diet make it a more well rounded diet.
She won't be slim and active for long. My question for you is - when it's time to train your dog, what will you have to offer as a treat, or motivation, for your dog? When you free feed and give out steak for no reason, that leaves very little in the realm of food rewards that a sated dog would actually want. "Why work for food when I can just have this for free?" is the attitude typical of a dog with the kind of lifestyle that you offer.
As long as the steak doesn't have any human seasonings on it, and isn't fried up and stuff, it's fine. I would stick more with the dry dog food, as yorkie's teeth are a big problem and wet foods can cause faster tooth decay in dogs.
