The best place to start would be with a vet. Next look at the food your feeding him. Our pets need quality pet food. Read the ingredients list and learn what the stuff on there is and what it does (or does not do) to/for our pets. A quick pet food 101. If the pet food contains corn/corn products or by products it is a poor quality food. Corn is a filler that can trigger skin problems. (allergies, skin problems, itching and excessive shedding) By products is anything from an animal not fit for human consumption, including cancerous tissue. Do not pay attention to advertising, they all say there food is great. "Vet approved" means they have a vet on staff to approve their product. In other words, someone paid to approve it. Same with foods most vets recommend. Salesmen "gift" vets then the vet recommends the food. Most vets are not nutritionalists! Quality foods have meat as the first ingredient. California Natural, Solid Gold, Innova and Merrick are a few of the best brands available. He definitly has something wrong.. It could be mange, or a number of skin conditions. You definitly need to get this guy to the vet for a skin scraping. Don't try any over the counter treatments for him as they can possibly make it worse... There are certain types of mange that can actually get transfered to you so definitly get him to the vet. If you can't afford it, get ahold of your local humane society..
sounds like mange, better get to a vet.
good luck
sound to me like skin infection, better take him to the veterinarian. he may be allergic to something. my dog is allergic to red meat and in the start we didnt know. he scratched himself so hard he needed a surgery.
Scratching and hairloss could be caused by many problems -- fleas, mange, allergies, etc., etc., etc.
The hair loss you've described is extensive, especially for a dog as large as yours. Your dog must be very uncomfortable at this point.
Please take your dog to a vet ASAP -- the problem has gone untreated for too long.
Yes, the vet is the best place to go ASAP. I had a great dane that scratched all the time and she had mange..there are several different kinds, also, your dog could have allergies, which can cause massive scratching, but with as much hair loss as your pup has had..I would assume it's something a little more serious. A skin scrape is a great idea!
Take him to the Vet. It could be mange, skin allergies, or fleas. A trip to the doggy doctor can give you a little more insight on what it is and they'll give him a shot or medication to cure the problem!
Hi, yes it sounds like it could be mange, or allergies, skin infection.the list is endless! Try going to the link below and read up on skin conditions, mange, itching and see if you cant figure out what it is yourself and find a home remedy that works for you. To give him some relief in the meantime give him some Benedryl at 1-2 mg per pound every 8 hours. Good luck !!
This might be due to lack of some vitamins. Visit http://hair.health2all.info for more information
