I have a question about my dachshund...?

My dachshund, Monty, is really fat but he doesn't eat that much and he runs alot..
What kind of medical problem could he have?
Answers:
there are several - take him for a checkup.
he is eating too much I can just about guarantee it. if you are feeding anything with corn in it or with soft pieces in it - those will pack weight on.
what are you giving for treats? are people feeding him from the table?
especially doxies which are prone to serious back problems you need to keep the weight off
What are you feeding him? And what kind of snacks are you giving him?
check with vet he may have parisites or even become diabetic some require shots maybe thyriod
He wouldn't have a problem if he is chubby, but when your dog is fat, it really depends on how fat he is. check his wieght, then when it is just too fat change the type of dog food. or just take him to the vet but I would recoment a heealthy type of dog food for fat dogs and has vegtables that is healthy for your dog to loose wiehgt.
Yup, I would have to say it's probably the amount of food you are feeding it. And maybe the quality.
How old is Monty ? Check with your Vet. at his age you may need to go with a less active dog food ad frozen green beans. With back problems, it could be partly the meds he is on and the being crated.
Your dog could be eating more than you think. If you have others in your family, maybe he is eating a lot of treats as well as his meals which can add up. Talk to the rest of your family to see if that is the case. If it isn't, he could have an under-active thyroid. Only your vet could know that be checking it with a simple blood test. If that is the case he needs medication. You might want to try a light, or diet dog food. That worked wonders for my lab. Avoderm has an excellent light dog food. My lab lost 15 pounds. Good Luck.
