I have a new 3 month poodle X who nips?

when I go to play or try to train her, if I yelp or say ouch or growl she comes back for a second nip!! My elderly mum has little nips all over her so I am getting concerned. I have tried water spray but she loves it! LOL . I am thinking of getting bitter apple but worried this might put her off coming to me if she associates me with this bad taste! Also any answers on stopping her from destroying my garden?
Answers:
Are you pulling your hand away when she is nipping? If you are this is a way of saying you are playing (in doggy language) so you should pull your hand away. If the high pitch ouch or yelp is not working then say "no bite" and stop playing with the dog. If she is still coming at you to bite then (gently) touch or grab by the scruff of the neck and say no bite again. (Mom or alpha dogs grab pups by the scruff of the neck to correct them). Teach your Mum to do the same with her. Dogs (especially Poodles and Chihuahuas) love attention from their owners so removal of attention is an excellent corrective measure.
As for your garden keep your dog on leash while outside and keep her away from your garden. You don't say the size of your dog but there are many risks for a dog off leash (more if it is a small dog) some are getting hit by a car, a bigger dog attacking them, running away and getting lost, and for tiny dogs.. getting attacked by hawks and other birds of prey. I know someone who had a 22 pound dog circled by a hawk.. I personally would have thought a 22 pound dog was safe.. but apparently not. So if she is on leash you can direct her away from your gardens.
to stop nipping every time she does it say in a bold voice NO and gently flick her on the noise. she will soon learn! to protect you garden put a fence around it!
