I have a new puppy...?

I was told that he was 8 weeks and the vet said hes more like 14 weeks so that was kinda upsetting. He is a yorkie and weighes 4.2 lbs. When we leave him alone we put a baby gate up in the hallway so he can play in the bathroom and hall. Initially he would use the bathroom on the rugs so we have out them away until her learns to use the pee pad. we put a blanket in the hall for him to lay on and now hes using the bathroom on it. SOMETIMES he does on the pee pad but its sporatic. We are gonna get rid of the blanket until he learns to use the pee pad. When he goes in the floor i pick him up and hold him towards the pee/poop and spank him and go put him in the bathroom and shut the door and then like 5 min later go get him. am i doing ok or should i approch this differently?

Make sure that you get the pet odor remover cleaner from the petshop/walmart -- if you don't get ALL of the smell up he'll keep marking the same spot over and over and over...
It'll take time -- good luck!
PS -- keep him off any hard-wood floors -- pet pee that soaks in stains something horrible and the only way to get rid of it is to sand the floor (found out the hard way)
um what u should do is contiue wat you r doing and when he pees on the pad give him a doggy treat
I think you are doing ok..as long as you aren't spanking him too hard. When he DOES go on the pee pad, you need to congratulate him, though. This needs to happen as SOON as he gets done going on the pee pad, or else he won't know what he is being awarded for. This is affirmation that what he is going is right, then he will get the idea "hey, I went on the pee pad and Mommy/Daddy gave me a treat". Good Luck!
NO!
THAT IS NOT HOW YOU TRAIN A DOG.
The Wee-Wee pads are intended to be there as a back-up, so incase the dog doesnt get you up in time, he'll use those. What you need to do, is first of all, get some Nature's Miracle, by 8in1. Any independant pet store should have it. Douse the rugs/carpet/floors he pees on with it. What it does is eliminate the odor/stain/and enzymes that bring the dog back to that spot. And the spanking does no good. Dogs have an 18 second attention span. So, when he looks like he's going to pee, simply distract him, and he should not pee. WHen you simply pick him up and spank him, he thinks its praise, since he's getting attention for peeing. Dogs cannot understand what youre doing, they hear blah-blah-blah-blah. So, fussing/spanking does really no good. All i can say besides that is either consult a local, independant pet store about it, or watch "Dog Whisperer" on Nat. Geographic Channel..
Well the breeder isn't very reputable. You should have returned the dog but I guess you do get attached so it is very hard. Also on house training (I just got a Bichon Frise puppy that was 2 1/2 months at the time and now almost 4 months and trained in about a week to go outside) You should NEVER show him the pad and spank him and then shut him in the bathroom door because that shows your dog that the potty pad is a bad thing and he will be scared to go on. When he does go on the potty pad, flood him with praise. When he doesn't, if you are there when he pees on the ground pick him up and say firmly 'BAD POTTY'. Soak up some pee with papertowel and bring it to the potty bad and say 'good potty =]' in a happy voice. Let the puppy sniff around a bit. If you are not there when he pees then it is not his fault, you just weren't there enough to train him so never punish a dog unless you catch him in action. If this happens just put him in his crate with a chew toy and go clean up the mess with a stain and odor remover to ensure that he will not re-eliminate on the same spot. Hope I helped, Jessie
first dont hit him it only makes them scared of you and second he may think the blanket is a pee pad as well try getting a dog bed
No, you never ever ever hit a dog! And, locking him in the bathroom isn't going to help you. Take him out every hour when you are home, and when you aren't home, put down the puppy pads, but be prepared to clean up a lot of messes when you get home. The best way to housebreak a dog is simply to praise it when it goes in the right spot, and to prevent messes from occurring. Of course, when you are not home, this isn't possible, but if you are consistent, the dog will learn to go outside.

I agree that you need to clean the floors with Nature's Miracle, or plain white vinegar in water.
Yes I would aprouch it diffrently I would not put him in the bathroom, I would show him were to go and there is a spraay that you can but at a pet store that you spay on the areas that you want him to go. he is too yound to be repramanding.
anything you put on the floor a puppy will pee on it you should get a dog door so he could go outside. If you leave a dog in side for a long time he will pee and that is not nice to expect a puppy to just wait for you how would you like to wait all day to go pee
ok u just have to keep a eye on him i have the same breed of puppy but they have duchunds to so we just have a pen in our kitchen and pee pads do work it just takes weeks to get them to use them puting them outside is good to get exersise and a better place to pee and poop and when they do go outside just say "good puppy!" or "thats a good boy or girl" it works
