I have a jrt that is a jack russell terrier?

i have a jrt she is about 34 day pregnant. i was wondering if anybody knew how long before we will feel the pups move? and is it good to take her to the vet to see how many she going to have? i heard it was bad on the pups to do the x-ray? they can tell around 40 days right? thanks
Answers:
normal gestation time for a dog is 63 days. sometimes you can feel the pups move in the last few weeks of pregnancy. you should have had your dog to the vet before and during the pregnancy already. wasn't the parent's vet checked before you bred them? didn't you screen for diseases, health issues and temperments? the x-ray will not harm the pups. most vets can see skeletons around 50-55 days on an x-ray. you should do this so you know how many pups are there and if there's a big enough space for mom to safely pass them. please tell me you at least are prepared for the possibility of the cost of a c-section? if mom has problems you know what to look for and what to do? you'll be ready to supplement the pups if mom is unable to feed or doesn't want to feed them. and you'll know how to check for cleft palets and know how to stimulate and care for weak and small puppies? i really don't want to answer these questions at a later time on here. take your dog to the vet and find out all you should have found out before you bred the dogs. then get them spayed and neutered.
yes, you need to take her to the vet for check ups all through the pregnancy.
why are you breeding when you know nothing about it? especially jrt's. there are gazillions of them in shelters %26 rescues now.
You can have an x-ray taken a week or two before the delivery date if you want to know how many pups to expect. Its dangerous in early pregnancy because the radiation may cause birth defects. During the later stages of pregnancy its considered fairly safe because the pups are already developed and simply gaining weight and waiting to be born. You will be able to feel her pups move in the next few weeks, be patient!
You won't be able to see the puppies on an x-ray until your dog is 42-43 days along. And I haven't ever heard that taking x-rays of the puppies does any damage to them.
I agree that if you don't know the answers to these questions then you shouldn't be breeding your dog. Have you considered getting your dog spayed?
A vet could probably give you a good idea around the time of her due date. No x-rays on the pregnant dog, though, it could kill the pups just like in a human. Just be patient and let nature take its course. Good luck with the mom %26 puppies.
what the hell is a jrt?
haha ur question is "i have a jack russell terrier that is a jack russell terrier"
ofcourse u should take it to the vet. not to see how many but to make sure she and the pups are healthy
u will feel them move at any time now
You should for sure bring her to the vet to make sure you know how many pups she will have. That way you know when she has finished giving birth. There is always the danger that a pup gets stuck or dies in side her. You will not know if this is the case unless you know how many puppies to expect. You could be saving her life by finding out.
Just like in humans, x-rays are not usually recomended. It is better to have an ultrasound done, just like a human mother would. If your vet cannot do this, I'm sure he can recomend some one who can.
Here is a good link about breeding

I would strongly encourage you to get your dog spayed after all of this is over with. You can also have the puppies neutered as early as 8 weeks. Many states have programs to help you with these costs.
Good luck

  1. why is everyone telling this person to take her dog to the vet for all types of unnecessary things. the dog is already pregnant. the pups will come out. it is nature. as for spay and neuter, it is not as healthy for dogs as it is made out to be and the disadvantages out weigh the advantages if you look at it from the dogs point of view.anyone who is suggesting that you neuter puppies is out of their mind. Compare this to removing a human beings reproductive organs while they are still preadolescent. Good luck with the puppies and the birth. Dont feel guilty either, just find good homes for the puppies after they are 8 weeks old.

  2. I agree with Jonathan. I am so tired of reading on different sites the negative comments people leave when someone has a dog that has become pregnant and they ask for answers to their well meaning questions. Life is life. I only hope that those people who have a teenager that gets pregnant without their knowledge really thought that through. I mean they really should have had them fixed at six months. Lord knows we don't need any more orphans in the world!!

Hope all goes well with your puppies, dear.
