I have a problem w/ my dog rolling around in other dogs messes, what should I do?

Anytime we go somewhere that another dog has pooped, he rolls around in it. Why?
Answers:
The reason they do this is to get their scent there where the other dog has gone. Unfortunately it is a nasty messy way to do this. Some dogs do it, others do not (those are the lucky ones :D). One way to stop it is control the leash, look ahead for the poop and stray away from it. Keep a firm hand on the leash letting the dog know that you aren't going to tolerate that type of behavior. I'm not sure of a training method you could do to stop it though. Maybe try googling it and see what you find. Goodluck!! :)
Smells good, feels good? I dunno I have never rolled in poop
my dog did the same thing. i had to wipe her off. i was so mad.
Well the reason why your dog might be doing this is because the scent of a dog. Your dog might be in heat. If your dog is doing this get a spray bottle full of water and spray your dog. Telling your dog that it is wrong. I just hope your dog is afraid of water
maybe because he wants to get to know that dog or he needs a friend in his life
It's very easy to stop that behavior.
- You keep your dog on a leash at all times.
- You supervise your dog at all times.
- You watch where you are walking.
Isn't that easy?
drp him off on the nearest interstate and get yourself a bright shiny new dog. : )
My dog used to do this when I first got her. If we were on a walk and she would stop and her head would start to go down first.I KNEW that there was poop there that she was going to try to roll in. Once she did it at the dog park and I couldn't get her cleaned off well there.so she had to ride home in the car with me pretty much covered in poop! What a mess!
I'm not sure why she would do this..and luckily she doesn't any more! Some one told me that she did this to disguise her scent.but I have no idea if that's why.
its like a purfume for dogs you will have to catch him and teach him/her not to sorry but thats why
I had a dog that did likewise-a pointer. HIs reason was,as I learned,to loose his scent and thus be able to track prey and show them to his owner(Oh Joy,ME).Tryed teaching to go downwind to get the same effect, but it was bread into him.
If your dog is the same,a hunting animal, this cuold be why.
