My dog is healthy and seems as though she feels well. She is one year old and active. My wife has been feeding her nothing but wet and table food.Is there a need for dry food in her diet to tighten her stool up.

You do not mention brands but I can tell you poor quality foods will produce stinky loose stools. A really good quality kibble will produce a smaller, firmer, less stinky stool.
Our pets need quality pet food. Read the ingredients list and learn what the stuff on there is and what it does (or does not do) to/for our pets. A quick pet food 101. If the pet food contains corn/corn products or by products it is a poor quality food. Corn is a filler that can trigger skin problems. (allergies, skin problems, itching and excessive shedding) By products is anything from an animal not fit for human consumption, including cancerous tissue. Do not pay attention to advertising, they all say there food is great. "Vet approved" means they have a vet on staff to approve their product. In other words, someone paid to approve it. Same with foods most vets recommend. Salesmen "gift" vets then the vet recommends the food. Most vets are not nutritionists! Quality foods have meat as the first ingredient. California Natural, Solid Gold, Innova and Merrick are a few of the best brands available. I have to feed my dog the same dog food all the time, and i don't mean just the brand, the same flavor, or she gets the "runs" every time. I also feed her about 1 1/2 cups of dry and mix a small can of wet with it.
tell ur wife i said to give that dog dry food! she doesn't listen to you. p.s. the dog will be alright.
Tin dog food is 70-80% water so it tends to go straight through the dog. if your wife wishes to feed tin food mix 1 tablespoon to 1/2 - 1 cup of quality dry food. substitute this with raw bones (chicken frames are am aussies favorite)
Wet foods are mostly water. You could add some cooked rice or dry food to make it more filling.
not only thickens the dry up, it's also much better for your dogs teeth! Stop feeding table food and wet food and get iams or science diet dry food. to get rid of the diarrhea just cook some plain chicken and give it to your dog-after cooling down- with cottage cheese. that helps!
There is most definitely a need for dry food in her diet. Wet food is mostly made of water. Also, any time you change her food you will need to slowly take her off of the old food by mixing the old and new. First meal change should be a small change, something like 1/4 new to 3/4 old and slowly adding the new daily and i would do this in no less than a weeks time. So if you recently changed her food this could do this also. But, i do recommend dry food to her diet and i would only add about a tablespoon or 2 to her dry food. And yes table food will definitely give her loose stool. Remember she is just a dog and is not used to people food. Dogs stomachs are very sensitive.
I use to breed Rots and Labs for years and now "Finally" down to 2 labs
Hope this helps
Some dogs can and do eat nothing but canned food and do fine. Many get loose stools from too much canned or cheap stuff. Most of my dogs can eat canned daily mixed in with their moistoned dry but my Dobe has a very loose and huge stool when fed some brands of canned 2 meals in a row. And not the cheap stuff either..lol. Dry is much more economical then wet food. My g/f feeds her mini wire dach the raw medallions and some veggies and he does fine but I prefer a basic good quality dry as the major part of their feeding. I use the raw as well as veggies, fruits and leftovers, but dry is the main part.
Try mixing some wet with the dry to get your dog use to the dry.
Do not feed Science Diet or Iams or anything else you can get from a grocery store. It's horrible food, full of fillers and by-products.
Go to this link and find a food that is rated high. The highest rating is 6. I feed my dogs Chicken Soup for the dog Lovers Soul because it's a good food and because of it's affordability and availability in my area.

Most vets will tell you that you must feed your dog dry food, insteaf of wet. This is healthy for their teeth. In the future you would not have to worry about too much dental work. The wet food seems to rott their teeth quicker, while the dry food keeps the tarter maintained
I have learned that a diet of all wet food=loose stools. It is difficult to clean up, and an aussie will get that all over her butt hair, which=smelly. You would be much better off feeding your dog a diet of high quality dry food. The stools will be firm and small.
I am much more concerned with the "table food"? You should never feed your dog from the table. Not only are there behavior issues that crop up, ie;begging, but your dog could eventually become obese, which will lead to all kinds of other health issues, including arthritis, heart disease, diabetes, etc.
You certainly don't want that for your dog. I recommend an immediate stop to the table food idea.
The wet food is causing your dog to have loose stools. Most veterinarians recommend dry food, as it is more nutrient rich and contains more protein. Wet food is mostly water and passes through the dog more rapidly then dry food would. Dry food is also much better for their teeth- it cleans plaque and leaves behind less food residue. If you decide to switch, I would switch to the same brand food you are using now, but switch to their dry kibble. Most vets recommend a gradual change over a two week period. Begin by adding small amounts of kibble to her wet food, and gradually increasing the amount until she is eating only the dry kibble. Good luck, hope this helps!
