I have a question about my dog that went to the groomers, and came back with a swollen red eye?

my mom took our little dog, a 5 year old dachshund, to the groomers, and he goes quite often a year to get him trimmed, and my mom likes the people in their and stuff. anyways, today, we dropped him off, came back later on to find his eye horribly swollen, and bright red. the lady claims that our dog tried to bite her, so she got a chemical in his eyes that made it like that. i dont believe her because for the 5 years we've had him and as many times as he's gone to the same grooming place, for the past like 2 years, hes never bitten anyone. and when my mom confronted the owner dude about it, all he said was "take your dog to vet, and dont come back here" thats really suspicious to me and it makes me angry cause i think someone hurt our dog. legally, is there anything we could do about his eye being hurt really bad, and the rudeness of the owner? is there actually a dog shampoo with a chemical that makes a dogs eye look like its going to pop out?
Answers:
That doesn't sound right. No chemical used to groom could make an eye look like it's going to pop out. Take the dog to the vet, and depending on the vet's diagnosis, you can make them pay the vet bill, and refund the groomiong costs. More importantly, if this is the fault of the groomer, spread the word. Just be CERTAIN it is before you defame them. It sounds a LOT more like the dog was strangled to me.
There is nothing you can do unfortunatly. It's your word against hers. Just dont go back there!
go to the vet immediately sometimes its an accident when the lady was cutting around my dogs face my dog stuck out her tongue and now it has the corner off we think its cute its not infected or anything these things happen
Professional groomers should know how to handle difficult dogs, assuming your dog did give her a problem. Definitely get your money back and spread the word about that establishment. Unfortunately, unless there was permanent damage or expensive medical treatment required, there's not much you can do legally. You should bring your dog to his vet to determine what the exact problem is with his eye. It doesn't sound like an innocent slip.
OMG thats awful! Your poor little dog! Maybe if you had taken him immediately to the vet the vet couldhave given u an idea as to what could have caused it and then you may have had some legal recourse if it continued to be that bad. Ihope hes ok now. cherie
I'd take the dog to the vet and see what he said about it. Then I'd decide whether or not to report the groomers to the police. I'd definitely expect the groomers to pay the vet bill.
I am so sorry about that. I can only imagine how furious I would be. I would have taken the dog to the vet immediately to document what had happened. Then I would have gone back to the groomer insisted that he refund my money, pay for the vet visit, and whatever treatment is needed. You can file a claim with the Better Business Bureau. You also might be able to file a police report if your vet determines it was abuse or neglect in someway.
If you are a minor then I would push my mom to pursue this to the end. If you're not a minor then I would pursue it myself (unfortunately some of the people you may need to contact might not take you seriously if you are under 18, annoying, but true).
Good luck I hope your dog is ok, that is truly what you want the end result to be.
wat a pity
Maybe she let hair get in his eye...If he has been going there for two years, they need to pay you a lot more respect. Was this a new groomer? The other groomers should know the dog if he has been a regular customer. And there is something wrong with the place if the owner said that to you. Any dog shampoo that gets in the eyes can cause irritation.
Try Petco or Petsmart next time. I work at Petco grooming and if anything happens to a dog there, such as getting nicked by a clipper, hair got stuck in the eye, etc and the dog needs to see the vet, Petco pays for the vet visit.
And when you have proof that the groomers hurt your dog, then spread the news! Groomers need to be responsible people.
