all my diogs were so ez to train but this is a jack russel and hes so hyper
Answers:
I didn't know you could train a dog to crap on a potty, I should have thought of that before I taught him to go out side it would save me the effort of opening the door
throw him outside problem solved.haha jk
You have to regulate his food and water, then take him outside about 15 minutes later. Otherwise you have to crate him. Use praise when he does go outside. You should have him trained in a few days.
take him out every time he wakes up and about 20 min after he eats keep an eye on him and learn his behavioral habits ,you can try gently giving his nose a rub next to where his gone to the toilet and sternly tell him his a naughty boy and put him straight out side or get a rolled up newspaper and hit the ground next to where he went tell him his naughty and take him out side dogs. some dogs are slower than others but they are all smart he will eventually work it out
jack russels are known for being hyper
what methods for potty training have u tried?
the crate method works the best typically
Crate him. Buy a crate and if you can't watch him or have him leashed near you so you can monitor him, put him in there (with potty breaks) until you can. What I did was, my girl started marking when we moved into temporary housing that the person right before us had cats. So, I let her know that wasn't acceptable by stopping her mid pee, by saying "NO!" then took her outside and when she finished I said, "good girl" and gave her a cookie. I gradually moved the cookie from right after the potty to when we got inside, so that I didn't have to carry cookies with me. From then on, our routine was, if she let me know she needed to go out, and she actually went potty, when we got back in she got a cookie (no cookie for holding it and going in and out, but she tried-don't fall for it). Are you exercising your pup enough and is he/she spending enough time outside to realize that outside is where the potty should be? First thing in the morning is a great time to start that.
Well, it depends on the dog as to how long it will take to get potty trained. Some just pick it up faster than others.
The best thing to do is to set a regular schedule that the dog can depend on to go outside. Keep in mind that young dogs cannot hold it as long as adult dogs and will need to go out far more often.
A good start would be to let the dog out every morning as soon as you wake up. after holding it all night, he will need out. Then let him out again every couple hours (if a puppy) or every 4 hours (if an older pup). Also, make sure that the last thing you do before going to bed is to let the dog out again, this way he has less time to try and hold it.
A dog will use body language to tell you it needs to go, if it is sniffing around walls or corners of furniture it likely is looking for a place to "mark" with pee. If it is circling with its tail up, then you are about to have a much worse mess. lol
I teach all of my dogs the command "Hurry up". After they are outside, I wait until the moment when they begin to relieve themselves. Then I command "Hurry up". When they finish going I reward them (kibble treats at first, then simply a "Good Boy" later) After a short while, they associate the command with the act of going, and will go immedietly upon hearing the command. This comes in very handy when I am either in a hurry or it's raining and they just want to wander around sniffing of everything.
Another thing that helps is to use a dog crate for the dogs sleeping quarters. During the daytime keep the door open, but shut him into it at night. They quickly learn that that is thier space, and will prefer to be in it day or night as it gives them both privacy and security. The reason you shut them into it at night is that dogs generally do not like to use thier sleeping quarters for a restroom, and will not go in it unless they just cannot help it. This helps train them to hold it until morning when you come and let them out to go outside.
I do not like to use newspaper and allow them to use it in the house, because I feel that it is teaching the dog two conflicting things. 1: You can use the newspaper to go in the house. and 2: You are not allowed to use the bathroom in the house, you have to use it outside.
I feel that that just causes confusion, and is a bad habit that I would have to try and break the dog from later.
