i have a king charles too, he was very playful and my mini schnauzer wasnt sure of him. i took my time and played and petted them together so they could get to know each other now they are the best of friends!!
It's perfectly normal. He's so used to being the only dog. It's going to take him time to get used to this little upstart coming into his life. It's somewhat like someone in their late 40's becoming a parent for the first time. It's not so easy to adapt as it first seemed, but it will happen.
Just be sure to watch them closely all the time when they are together. When you have to be away be sure to find a "safe place" for the pup. Either in a crate, fenced off area where the other dog can;t get to her or in another room. (The crate would be best.) Leave the older dog in whatever situation he was before the pup came. If you change things there he will think he's being punished.
It may take a few days, weeks or even a few months but it will happen. First he will start to tolerate her, then show interest in her then before long you will catch them playing together and even sleeping together.
Let nature run it's course. Your JR boy is have a new housemate and need time adjusting. He is no longer the active puppy and could stand no puppy nonsense for now especially when she is new to him. Give them time to know each other and trash out their dominance issue.
Try brining your puppy to meet other playmates who are younger, let her tire herself out so she dont bother your boy.
As others have said, it's normal behaviour. Make sure the JR has somewhere he can "escape" to, so he can get away from her when she gets too much for him %26 they'll be fine. Make sure you don't leave them alone together without supervision - puppies can try the patience of even the most forgiving of adult dogs.
At 42 would you want to be pestered by the kids of someone else?
we had that with our rescue staffy, the first weekend all she did was bare her teeth at our resident rottie pup, I got them to play with a toy togeather and we have not had a problem since,
