I have just seen my neighbour feeding her dog salted peanuts, can they be allergic to them. I was told that?

nuts in particular and chocolates can be lethal to dogs. As anyone else heard this.
Answers:
CHOCOLATE IS TOXIC...it's NOT a myth!
Dear Joanne D and friends:
The danger of chocolate depends on what kind of chocolate is consumed and how much. Most TOXIC is baker's, which is pure unsweetened or cocoa powder. High-quality gourmet baked goods and chocolate candies may be higher-risk because they may be make of dark chocolate or baker's. However, when milk or other ingredients are added it becomes less dangerous.
The TOXIC ingredient in chocolate is called theobromine, a substance similar to caffeine.
For the love of dog!

PEANUTS: I'm not sure, rule of thumb...if your not sure about something...NEVER give it. However, they do fall under fatty foods. If a dog eats foods that are high in fat, it can cause pancreatitis, an inflammation of the pancreas. As in people, the pancreas produces digestive enzymes and contains the cells that produce insulin.
Pan. signs are generally an acute onset of vomiting, sometimes with diarrhoea-even water is often immediately vomited. Abdominal pain can result in a hunched posture and a pain reaction when feeling the belly.
In this case they can become sick very quickly , needs IV antibiotics and fluid to bring down inflammation.although treatable, it can be DEADLY in some cases.so.does that sounds like a healthy snack...I don't think so.
My dog loves her peanuts.
it can be lethal to them idk. it my opinion
Aparently it is urban legend that chocolate is dangerous to dogs, there are urban legend sites that will tell you what are myths and what is real. Not sure about peanuts, but personally I wouldnt feed my dog salted peanuts.
Some nuts and all chocolates are poisonous to dogs. Some dogs do get allergies to nuts but not all. Peanuts in small quantities are fine. Most dog cookies contain peanut/peanut butter anyways.
The three things you must definitely NEVER feed to dogs are:
Cooked chiken bones (too brittle and may rupture dog's insides)
Dark Chocolate (too high in the enzyme Theobromide which can be lethal to dogs)
and
Raw Onions (don't know why but I've never known a dog to eat them)
Some people say you should not give them raisins or sultanas either, but I am not sure about that one. Peanuts however, should be okay.
Yes they can and salt is very bad for the dog, if you can't talk to them I'd find an article on the net and push it through their door!!
Stupid woman!!(Your neighbour not you!)We are told not to feed small children peanuts in case they choke-how do you explain to a dog that it must chew the nut properly before swallowing??
no there is no record yet to dogz bean alergec to them hawever the amount of salt in them is not good for a dog or enny animal for that matere so i soggest you keep your dogz away from penuts thay can aso corse obecty blood clots and mack your pooch dieabetic
if the dog couldnt digest the peanuts , maybe it would vomit them back. my yorkshire terrier loved grapes. never killed him. a lot of rubbish is told about all sorts of things
Many dogs love peanuts, peanut butter, etc. They are generally not allergic to them, although there are exceptions. However, you are right about chocolate. Chocolate can be lethal to dogs, as many are allergic.
The only nut that is bad for dogs is the macadamia nut. Chocolate in large quantities can make a dog very sick. Other than peanut allergies (which isn't common in dogs) other nuts are fine.
Get your own dog, nosy neighbor. When you do, do not give Fido chocolate, it *can* be toxic.
My *VET* told me that grapes, raisins, onions and chocolate are toxic to dogs. That does not means they will instantly croak if they eat a grape, it means they *might* die from eating them. This is not urban legend, it is advice from a veterinarian. She also discourages feeding pork in any form, as it is very hard on the digestive system (I have an old dog, and a puppy).

Guess what, dumbass, I have NEVER purchased a dog in my life, mine are all rescues. You neighbor was not beating their dog, stupid, they were feeding them a snack, big friggin difference, you are the idiot here. Thanks for the personal attack, it is duly noted, I feel sorry for any dog that is in your so-called care. I have NEVER dumped an animal, mine are my responsibility for their life.
Furthermore you seem to be a know-it-all, so why the hell are you asking? It is a no-brainer that chocolate is toxic to dogs!!
Nuts are not dangerous to dogs but i'd be concerned with the salt content on them! Chocolate is lethal to dogs as are raisins, sultanas, grapes ( obviously ) any bones cooked or raw.
Cocoa is poisionous to dogs, and salt cant be very good for them either.
chocolate is poisonous to dogs and also grapes as my old dog loved them and was ill so went to vets and it was the grapes making her ill.im not sure about peanuts though.
Yes. Salt is very bad for dogs. They probably get what they need from their regular food. And they can be allergic to nuts.
Macadamia nuts are toxic to dogs. Dogs love peanut butter and I haven't heard of peanuts being toxic, though I suppose it could be a dog would have an allergy to it. I would think it would be uncommon. Dogs routinely get Kongs stuffed with some peanut butter and our dogs get peanut butter between two of their biscuits every day. I wouldn't choose to feed my dog the salted nuts. That much salt isn't good for people or animals, and dogs don't chew the nuts like people (well, some people) do.
Regular unsalted peanuts are good for a dogs coat.
Peanuts aren't bad. The salt isn't good - just like too much salt isn't good for humans - and considering that most dogs do not weigh what a human weighs, a little salt goes a long way. It's just going to make them drink more and retain some water (the sodium ion does that). That can be a dangerous situation on a 100o day but under normal circumstances, it shouldn't be problematic.
Many people give their dogs peanut butter stuffed into kongs. So again, peanuts, not a big deal!
Chocolate can be - but again, it depends on what kind (white chocolate, milk chocolate, dark chocolate), how much is consumed, and the size of your dog. It isn't the chocolate that is toxic, it's the chemical theobromine contained in the chocolate that is (which is why white chocolate isn't a problem - other than you are feeding your dog sugar!). The general rule of thumb - which makes life so much simpler, is never give a dog chocolate. That way, you don't have to worry about whether or not Fido ate too much, if you need to induce vomiting or go directly to the vet.
Thats a Myth about Chocolate ....And How about minding your own bussiness when it comes to your neighbors !
As with humans you dont know what one is allergic to till they have a reaction. My dogs eat small amounts of salted nuts that we drop on purpose for them to eat. Alot of people put peanut butter in Kongs, same difference.

If I was feeding my dog something bad and my neighbor saw what I was giving him I would want him to tell me that it was not good to give to my dog. I would not mind at all. Like I have been telling a lot of people that HUMAN food is not good for cats and dogs. A person on here ask a question and I gave her the truth and the person was happy that I told them what could happen.
Some dogs have bad reactions to macadamia nuts. Peanuts, however, are not really nuts but legumes.
What causes problems with nuts in dogs is unknown. Dogs can eat salt as humans can. Dogs also often do not digest whole peanuts. You can see them (unfortunately) in their poop pretty much exactly as they went in.
Baker's chocolate, 1/2 oz per pound of body weight as a rule of thumb, can be fatal to dogs. It is a pretty rare problem although dogs do get sick and vomit up chocolate if they eat too much.
As for food allergies, dogs will most likely develop them in reponse to over exposure. This is why they are most likely to be allergic to foods in dog food: beef, chicken, wheat, soy, etc.
Here is a good list of problem foods:

WELL IT DEPENDS BECAUSE THEY CAN CHOKE BUT CHOCOLATES CAN KILL DOGS THAT HAS WHAT HAPPEND TO MY NEIGHBOUR DOG BUT WHAT HAPPEND TO MY SISTERS DOY THAT IT CHOKED OF THE PEANUTS BUT WHAT HAPPEND TO MY NEIGHBOURS SHE GAVE IT PEANUTS AND NAFG HAPPED
It's nice you rescue dogs. But, I think you are being a little neurotic about your neighbor's dog. I mean it's not like they are beating it or leaving it outside in the cold. I'm glad your not my neighbor! I would so move!!
Chocolate is bad for dog's and cats as I know to my cost! (It was accidental the dog got at the Xmas tree and we were lucky he recovered)! It's the Theobromine it contains that can kill an animal. Onions are also Toxic. I've never heard of a dog being Allergic to nuts and most dog's will do anything for Peanut Butter. lol
Salted Peanuts is a silly thing to give a dog! The salt is bad for them and they could choke or inhale something that small! It's not a risk I'd take!
Blue-eyes I think your list is misleading, it does actually say CAN BE BAD in LARGE QUANTITIES! and that some animals can eat some of them without ill effect. All my dog's have raw meat and bones and they live longer than the average for their breeds and they rarely see the Vet!
get a life M8 if the animal eats them then he likes them what a nosey neighbour ,watch out in case they shout at the dog it might offend him your barking mad mad mad
yes they can be.. but most dogs are not and love anything made of peanuts especially peanut butter! if you are unsure if your dog is make that the only thing knew you give him that day and if you see no reaction after about 48 hours then they should be fine.. the salt though can be bad for dogs just like with people
For Joanne D and her 'urban legend' I'll tell you of a little incident that I was involved in. A friend of mine had a Lab which got hold of a bar of chocolate at lunchtime just before she was going back to work. She rang me because she remembered something about dogs and chocolate. I told her that it contained theobromine which was very injurious to the dog and she should ring the vet. She rang the Vet who told her that he needed the dog to be brought in so she said "I am just going back to work so I'll bring him in this evening". To which the vet replied "By this evening you may not have a dog to bring in!"
So much for 'urban legend'. Theobromine is great for us but a killer for your dog!
