Well, I was looking for a teacup German Shepherd, but they shed too much. So, I wanted a Giant Chihuahua, but then I was told the woman who breeds them, mixes Chihuahuas with Min Pins and that is why they get so big! (Dang backyard breeders!) So, I finally found the right dog! An extra large English Mastiff. The breeder told me that the pup's father was 282 lbs! She e-mailed me a picture of his dad, and he is almost as big as a horse! I just have to have one!
So what do you think? Would a 250 + lb dog be a good choice for me?
Oh, and since he will get so big, I plan to keep him tied in my back yard. That will be OK, right?
Answers:
Oh Kats please forward me the details on this one. Not only is it perfect for you it's perfect for me too.
I would so love one of these. Yes mine will have to live outside too, but it's just a dog right. My little Chi's can ride on it like a horse. Maybe I can dress it up in fancy clothes too. Doesn't matter if it looks dumb because I can do what I want with it once it's mine. I know it will eat a lot, but I have a WalMart less than 5 minutes from me where they sell all the best brand foods. They always have Iams and Beneful which I know are the best you can get.
Can't wait to hear from you.
its okay but maybe not tied.. let him be free in the yard
i hope you are kidding
Man you're an idiot! Someone should tie you up so you can't waste anybody's time with your ignorance!
Min Pins are sooo cute and hot!!
And tea cup mastiffs too!!
BTW, when I grow up, I want to be an astronaut!!
I don't know about tying him up out back, you would need a HUGE chain.. I am wondering about your pooper scooper.. That big of a dog would eat ALOT of Ol Roy, and is going to poop like a horse.. My pooper scooper wouldn't be able to handle a mess that size.. You will need a snow shovel or something.. That's my only concern... Cleaning up the yard.. WOW..
You plan to keep a dog that grows larger than most human beings tied in your back yard? Those dogs need a big back yard and shouldn't be tied up at all.
teacup German Shepard, you funny, the hairless ones do not shed
No, I don't think it's a good idea to "keep him tied in the back yard". In fact, I think it's a bad idea. Just train him, and make him part of the family. Spend time with him.
This moron I know kept his dog in the back yard - German Shepherd, and the neighbors poisoned the poor dog - because some people are @ssholes.
I hope you are kidding with this question. If you get a big dog make sure you have the room for him/her to run and get plenty of exorcise. NEVER tie a dog in a back yard this is inhumane would you like to be tied? There is no such thing as a teacup German Shepherd or a Giant Chihuahua, but I think you already know this. you are only asking this question to get a rise out of people. If not then please, please do not get a dog of any kind.
NO!!!
Why in the world do you want a dog if all you're going to do is tie him in the back yard? I absolutely hate to see dogs tied outside! How would YOU like to live your life that way? During the freezing cold or roasting hot weather? Seeing your "family" come and go out of the house--you just setting out there all by yourself. Lonely. And don't say, "but I will play with him every day." Firstly, you most likely wont. And secondly, even with that... it still is a pathetic life for a dog.
Dogs are pack animals and belong IN THE HOUSE with his pack----you and the family. If a Mastiff is too large for you to invite into your home, please, please, please get a much smaller dog, perhaps a terrier, who will fit into your lifestyle better.
I'm begging you.
EDIT: DP, old roy is crap going in and its crap coming out. Horrible food. Sounds lie she can't afford a dog if that is all she can afford to feed it. And if you're gone that long throughout the day... and that's your explanation for tying it outside, DON'T GET A DOG!!!
This is a joke, right? thanks for the 2 points.
Yah, I guess it is OK... BUT DONT KEEP HIM TIED UP! Get a fence and let him be free... Or get a run for him.
PS. GOOD LUCK! And there is no thing as a teacup german shepherd. Or giant chuhuaia!
You want a Mastiff? Good hell. Why not buy a horse? How big is your back yard? Big dogs need a lot of room and they make BIG landmines out in the yard. Guess who gets to clean them up? Yup, you! How much is it going to cost to feed it? Take it to the vet? Etc. etc. Not to mention the liability you incur if the damn thing bites someone. What kind of shelter from the elements is it going to have? How much time are you going to spend with it? Dogs needs LOTS of attention. These things need to be taken into consideration.
But it's your choice!
Little unsure wether or not you are having a laugh.
To answer your question - No.
I don't think this is the right breed for you. If your simply going to keep the dog out back do the dog a favour and buy a gold fish.
:) !!! :) are you planning on making people angry of just making fun of yourself???
is it a pure bread or do you have to knead it a lot. I have pure bread cocker-a-doodle-poos and they are quick-rising. ;)
Ol'Roy! Wow! Pretty impressive - going for the top of the line, eh?
It costs a lot to care for them. I have a boxer who is half the size and I spend about $100 every week and half to feed him. And if they are taking in that much food, you can imagine how big his poop is! By the way if your just going to tie him down if he gets too big..why don't you just get a smaller dog that you can actually care for. Large dogs or any dogs for that matter do not do well when tied down. Keeping a dog tied down promotes aggression. My dog is large but he is trained and well behaved so I am able to take him with me when I go places.
Hi. I CAN HEAR that you love animals and that you want a pet . . . and I'm glad for you here. Animals are WONDERFUL in every way.
With respect, you are NOT READY at this moment to be getting one . . . but by virture of the fact that you are asking questions here . . . it shows me that you are smart enough to really step back and do some research.
With all my experience is dogs, both breeding and showing and rescue . . . USUALLY a person will ask a question such as "should I get a Cairn Terrier or a Westie . . . or maybe a Norwich or Norfolk" . . . which are 4 similar breeds in size, personality and appearance.
When you ask or talk about a dog that is LARGE and phew, this dog is or could be . . . and then you also talk about a Teacup German Shepherd? WHAT IS THIS? stay FAR AWAY, and what is a GIANT Chihuahua? you are way too across the board [and I am NOT saying this to be rude, just to give you something to think about] even as far as personality, dog care and grooming, and I don't believe you have really thought about the dogs physical needs over the next many needs.
You really do need to think about a dog to fit your life style and SPACE, and a 200 plus pound dog does NOT work in an apartment . . . and I might say you may wish to check your lease . . . often apartments will rent with a deposit and allow a pet, but often also they have weight limitations. Even if the home/rental you are in now allows for a big dog, you probably are not going to be staying here forever.
You have a big heart. I can hear this . . . but you need to spend some time, maybe at dog bark parks or volunteer at a shelter for a while and do a little more research.
Danielle
A dog that big? Forget keeping him tied up in the back yard, get him a saddle. Gas prices keep going up and with his size, he might as well earn his keep.
I'd think yes, you wouldn't have to worry about anyone bothering you. Giant Mastiffs are good in apartments if exercised properly on a daily basis. Don't tie him out in the backyard, this can make him aggressive. Bil-Jac is a good food for him and it's not expensive.
I want one too. I think it would fit in well with my Miniature Shepherds and all my mini shepherds love Ol Roy dog food.
You're crazy. If you live in an apartment and you wanna get a dog you're supposed to get a Chihuahua or a SMALL dog that can live inside. Why don't you do yourself a favor and buy a pony? That way, it's the same size, and you can keep it in a barn without killing it. Or better yet, just get a damn hamster or a beta fish. Nutcake. Don't get the dog. Waste of time, money, and life.
Okay, Kats, are you nuts?! First of all, if you're going to leave him alone 8-10 hours a day make sure he's got plenty of water, food, and some company. You might want to consider buying your Emporer Mastiff a pet of his own. Just be sure that they can't get themselves tangled up in their chains.
But you really need to think this thing through ... have you ever expressed the anal glands on one of these big boys? It ain't pretty.
hahahahahaha GOOD ONE!
