Breed specific legislation, like picking your nose in public, is an embarrassment to the intelligence of our nation.
No data suggests one breed is more dangerous than another and the fact this data does not exist should be enough to stop the creation of breed specific laws in their tracks. However, not to my surprise the lack of hard data and facts does not seem to matter to a hysterical public nor to an ignorant governing body that only cares about the majority vote to keep them in office.
Law makers should be ashamed to show their faces in public as supporters of these laws and you should be ashamed to do so as well.
When is it okay to take someone’s rights away from them and deny them their freedom?
When is it okay to tell someone they can not have a specific breed of dog in their home because you do not feel “safe” as a result?
Your argument that you, like me, have a right to feel safe in your own community and that breed specific laws will allow you to feel secure is as empty as a starving man’s stomach.
Your right to feel safe is no more important than my right to own a specific breed of canine and have them in my home.
Your right to feel safe does not override or rule out my right to feel safe from your strong arm tactics to take my freedom of choice away.
Every year millions of people are bitten by dogs. How many of them are American Pit Bull Terriers or similar breeds also referred to as, “Pit Bulls?” You don’t know and you will never know because statistical data to support your argument does not exist.
Data is twisted and guesstimated to encourage your arguments validity. Even the Central for Disease Control refuses to allow their own data to be used in court because it is misrepresented as somehow showing certain breeds are more likely to bite than others.
When the office that collected the data says it is not valid enough to warrant such drastic laws you would think that would be enough to stop the use of these outdated incomplete stats to create these laws.
Unfortunately, it seems the people and the organizations that support these laws are not phased by the hard facts these laws are ineffective and only serve to take the lives of well mannered dogs and steal the responsible owners right to have those dogs in their lives.
In conclusion
Taking someones dog away because it belongs to a certain breed of dog is going to open the door to having all companion dogs taken away. Something the animal rights groups like the PETA would love to see occur.
No dog breed will be safe in the end. These laws will continue to spread from breed to breed, city to city, state to state until we are a nation without canine companions.
If you think that is untrue you simply have to look to countries like Italy that have included Border Collies and Corgi Terriers on their breed ban lists. It is a vicious cycle that will continue without recourse.
I will meet you on the streets and I will speak my mind and I will make my voice heard and I along with the thousands of others like me will put an end to your tyranny.

It's a question of knowledge and it's obvious there are too many who don't have it when it comes to this subject.
Dellajoy is a perfect example of ignorance when it comes to a dogs behavior. I could site many examples involving Pits and other "suspect" breeds that are very similar to her mention of the Lab. I can also site many more examples involving non-suspect breeds such as Chihuahua's, Pomeranian's, and various Terriers where they have attacked children and toddlers and done a good bit of damage but these dogs are considered harmless.
People need to learn that most dogs respond to how they are raised regardless of breed. In most cases their temperment is determined by their owners.
1 in 4 canadian women will be raped by a man in her lifetime. Let's ban men!
Why not same idea?
The difference between being bitten by a poodle and being bitten by a pit bull is the damage done. Pit bulls will grab onto something and just not let go. They aren't a real intelligent breed neither and can be very unpredictable.would you leave your toddler alone with one? I knew a black lab who was absolutely trustworthy around the family's toddler.the baby grabbed the dog by his testicles and the dog didn't do a thing other than whine for the attention of his owner to rescue him. I don't know why anyone would want one of them when there are so many other breeds of dogs available.
However, I don't think people who have their dogs now should be forced to give them up, but I do think that with certain breeds should be banned from the dog park because they simply aren't sociable to other dogs. And people that own these breeds should have a few rules too about keeping them under their control at all times. A pit bull should NEVER ever be allowed to roam freely!
People die in car crashes. Let's ban cars.
People slip and die in showers. Let's make it illegal to ever shower again.
People eat themselves to death. Let's ban McDonalds. (Oh wait, I agree with that one LOL)
BSL does absolutely nothing to improve lives for either dogs or owners. It kills dogs that 'look' like the designated breed. It punishes reputable caretakers by forcing them to choose between their homes and their dogs. It overcrowds shelters and makes even more animals that might have been adopted die after lingering without hope.
People need to be educated before they get a dog. I say, bring back the dog license in force- make it like the driver's license. You can take the test as many times as you like, but until you pass, you get nothing.
I agree with you 100%. Opinions are like noses, as they say, everybody has one. Problems will abound. Who will be the selected gurus to determine the breeds. Aunt Lulu or Uncle Hubert, who kept "no dogs allowed" signs in their yards?
