My boyfriends dog is a 7 year old German shepard mutt (not purebred) Cute. He has no good qualities. He pee's on everything in the house, he attacks anything that comes on or near the property, killed the neighbors kitten, he sheads unmercilessly, is completely neurotic. We cleaned the carpet (again) because of his pissy episodes and what does he do.the very next day he's pissing on the couch (lifting his leg on it. The house SMELLS! The owner?.well the problem starts there. The dog was never socialized, trained, taught to obey, or diciplined. Can anything be done now that he's 7 yrs?? Farking huge hairballs EVERYWHERE! a-RRg-g-g!
Answers:
That is disgusting. Your boyfriend is an irresponsible and bad pet owner. He should not be allowed to have a dog.
The dog can be trained, but it will not happen through E.S.P.
You are going to have to take charge if you want anything to change. The dog is doing what he has always done. If you had a child and never taught it anything, it would behave in a similar fashion.
Train the dog. You are going to need more help than can be given here, but it can be done. Contact a professional dog trainer to help you. The dog is out of control (through no fault of his own). Even Petco and PetSmart have inexpensive training classes.
If you can't handle it, contact a local Shepherd rescue group. do not take him to a shelter, as he will be automatically put down for his aggression.
Edit:
Oh, that growling the dog does at you? It's called aggression! Your BF is rewarding this behavior when he coddles her.
Seriously, she could be dangerous. Buy your boyfriend a dog behavior book.
look into obedience school and you need patience i know its hard but its not his fault its your bfs fault just work with him just like a puppy its possable and it may help a little
With the poor excuse for an owner this dog has, it's a wonder he hasn't ended up in a shelter yet labeled unmanageable. There's unfortunately not a whole lot you can do except educate the total ignoramous who calls himself this dog's owner.
Get a new boyfriend.
You can't do it alone- you need him to buy into a rehabilitation program- which from your note- seems unlikely...
Sorry...
I am not an expert on dogs but it sounds to me that the owner should be netured.
I'm usually not a smart aleck but that sucks! If it was me, I'd tell my bf to leave the dog at his house, or break up with him. (Can you imagine how he'll be if you have kids? If he raises them like he did the dog they'll be in JDC by the time they're 6 yrs old!)
I love dogs.
I don't love every dog I ever met.
PROFESSIONAL TRAINER!!! This should help. i hope you and that dog start to get along. Maybe he is really bored and thinks that nobody is paying attention to him. You should try walking and give a lot of chew toys to distract him. GOOD LUCK!!
Retraining him can be done. You both have to be consistent. If he wasnt neutered ,he should be. You can try using a belly band while your trying to correct the marking problem. When you clean anything he has marked you should use a product that is enzyme based. These are the only products that truly remove the odor not just mask it. He sounds very bored, Walking him will not only relieve some of that pent up energy but done correctly it will help establish you as the leader which is the start of promoting any good behavior in him. As for the hair, Gsd have a thick undercoat, regular grooming and use of a deshedding tool will GREATLY help with the hair in the house. If you can afford a groomer look for someone that will use a force dryer to completely blow this undercoat out. as brushing will take hours and may not get it all. He can change but it has to be a commitment on all parts. Good luck!
take him to a trainer or break up with your boy friend
Try to get him in obedience classes thats not fairi yo have to live with your boyfriends dog. tell him to either do something with the dog or get rid of teh dog or break up with ur boyfriend
you need to start with getting the boyfriend to commit to changing the dog's behavior. you also need to understand that the dog actually doesn't know better and if you're going to be mad at anyone, be mad at the owner. the dog's in charge and probably has always been in charge, that's whay he pisses everywhere to mark his territory. you have to try to discipline him by taking charge of him. feed him and make him wait for his food. walk him properly on a leash, even if you have to start by walking inside the house. teach him 'tricks' using treats, maybe even some boiled chicken meat and you might be surprised how he responds to you. never, ever try to discipline him by hitting, it'll only make things worse. If you do as much as you can by yourself and it's not enough, work with a professional so you can get the extra help. good luck! remember the dog is only as good as the owner!
There are no bad dogs.. just badly trained dogs.
First, for the peeing, take him to the vet to rule out urinary tract problems. If he's not neutered, schedule that to be done while you are there. Start housebreaking again as if he was a puppy.. he needs crated or contained somehow when he cannot be supervised. You may also want to look into belly bands.
For the shedding. What is he eating? A good quality kibble makes a HUGE difference in the amount of hair. He should also be brushed daily. This is shedding season too.
You need to sign up for obedience classes. I also reccommend you google NILIF and start practicing that. Your boyfriend needs to get invovled in the training too.
If the owner has raised the dog that way and is treating the dog like a big suck, you aren't going to teach him anything.. Everyone has to be on board in teaching the dog to be a normal dog.. That out of control spoiled crap.. He's not going to want to give up that behaviour easily.. You'll need the help of everyone there..
This dog sounds to me that his spoilt and his allowed to do what he does. Its your fault that you have allowed him to continue thus far with out any training or socializing, and this what happens when you dont take full responsibility for an animal, it becomes a huge problem.
You should get this dog socialized and trained as soon as possible before you all decide to send him away, and its not his fault, its yours!

I love dogs and want to start a dog park. Can anyone share ideas on how/where this can be done?
We are thinking of moving about 45 miles so we will be near an interstate because that will create alot more business than where we are currently living.
Also, if you have been to one, the things you liked or did not like about it?
Answers:
one that has water fountains is great.. provide poop baggies and trash cans to help encourage people to clean up after their dogs... separate fence areas for big and little dogs. The one I went to had a small fenced in area at the entrance.. you had to go thru 2 gates to get into the fenced area.. that helps prevent escaping.
Benches for the humans to sit is good.. trees.
you need rules too, and a way to enforce them. Aggressive dogs should not be allowed, dogs should be current on shots and also be licenced. If a particular breed is illegal in your city, natrally it shouldnt be allowed in the dog park as well!
Be the first dog park to require vaccines to be UTD and proof of negative Fecal Floatation's and Giardia Snap Tests!!
I do not bring my dogs to dog parks because I do not know the vaccine history of all the other dogs. Sadly, owners today are not always responsible and are not good about keeping vaccines updated.
I know it would be very hard for you to establish such strict rules and regulations, but it would be for the better of all the doggie members and a lot more people would be interested in going for some worry-free fun :)
P.S. Knowing my dogs... they would love a kiddie pool or two at a dog park :)
Too many irresponsible dog owners show up at dog parks. They often refuse to pick up after their dog. Their dogs are often not well behaved. Some folks congregate and socialize, and they don't even watch their dog. You don't know if all the other dogs at the park are current in their vaccines or healthy for that matter.
I used to frequent dog parks with my dogs, but now I seldom go anymore.
Several acres of fenced land first. Then terrain acceptable to the animals to play safely. Next, adequate facilities for the 2 leggers to use, perhaps food, places to sit %26 rest, water for the dogs, cooling off pools or a pond. Also staff to oversee things. It's like with any business, you have to have a plan.
If it is a private one as opposed to public, you tend to see the same folks with the more socialized dogs. I have found in public spots folks just take their dogs there on a whim whether they are socialized or not, not for a purpose. Just my opinion. Best of luck to you.
that seems like a pretty good location...i liked how they had water fountaings for the dogs to drink out of, trees for shade, benches to sit on and doggy bags which were conveniant. I also liked that they had a big dog side and small dog side. What i didn't like was that the one i went to had no grass. Grass is very important even if its torn up because it helps keep the dust down.

I love both breeds but....?
i can only get one dog. which should i get pomeranian or shih tzu?
Answers:
Oh, that's a tough one. My opinion is that everyone should have at least a six-pack of Pomeranians. But I've gotten to know shih tzus though friends who own them, and they are all sweet, clever, wonderful little dogs.
I guess it comes down to how much you exercise every day. Shih tzu puppies are very active, but they tend to slow down quite a bit as they mature. Poms, on the other hand, are always ready to go. My eleven year old Pom is still up for a four hour hike. I can't imagine an older shih tzu making that trek. Another difference is that Poms will be yappy if you let them. Since I can't stand the yip-yap, I've trained my dogs not to do it, but I still have to remind them every now and then. Oh and grooming: I find Pom's coats easier to keep in shape than shih tzu's.
Personally, I like Pomeranians.
Good Luck!
they both are very cute. i would get a pomeranian.
Pomeranians I have found have a nice personality.
shih tzu are much more calm and nice in general
poms tend to have a huge attitude and are barky and can be mean
u should google both breeds' personalities and see which one u like more. i dont know too much about the breeds, but my friend has one of each. shih tzu's tend to be a bit more friendly and playful but annoying, while pomeranian's are less hyper active, and cuddly once use to u, but at first they're shy. BOTH are naturally barky. which ever u get may need a bit of training.
Most of my friends decided to get shih tzu dogs. I hope you are getting a healthy dog, from a reputable breeder. Don't buy from pet stores, because you don't know what you are getting. A good breeder will want to ensure that your pet is healthy and mentally stable. And keep in mind that a good breeder will always be available to answer your questions when you call!
Personally, I think poms are better. Defenatlly.
Personally, I think not asking the same question twice in a 20 minute period is my favorite.
If you've researched both and both breeds are appropriate to your life and situation, why don't you let "circumstances" decide.
That is, do you want to get a rescue dog? Call up local Pomeranian and Shih Tzu rescue and see what they have available. If they both have dogs available visit both. If you can't visit both or still can't decide, talk it over with the rescuers. They generally know their breed very well and can advise you on if the breed, and specifically the rescued dog in question, is right for you.
To find good rescues, visit http://www.petfinder.com, http://www.shihtzu.org/astc/rescue.asp?m... http://www.americanpomeranianclub.org/re...
If you want to get a dog from a breeder, contact some good, responsible breeders. (The best way to do that is through the national breed club.) Talk to them and they will help you decide if their breed is right for you. You can also figure out when their next litter is. If you want a dog sooner, that might help decide the breed.

my choice is Gr. Shpe or Beagle.
Se we have a debat ehee.
You must be in a small house.
I still like a dog that has some wildness and spirit.
Like a larger pet .
Sorry
I would get a Shih Tzu.
Get a cross!
It might work you never know im sure you could find one somewhere!
= D
Shih tzus are a little ugly...and they smell pomeranians are loyal, cute and huggable!!
I have a shih tzu and they are loving, caring, and I say they're the best type of breed you can get. Shih tzu's also don't bite often. They love people and are VERY kind. I highly think you should get a shih tzu. You can also get which ever one you're most comfortable with.
get a shih tzu! Two friends of mine each have one, and they are the most adorable dogs in the world. They are easily trained and are active and cuddly lapdogs.
I think they are WAY better than pomeranians, because poms shed unnatural amounts of fluffy hair all over everything, and are much yappier than shih tzus.
The grooming requirements for a shih tzu are much easier than those of a pomeranian, and so you are left with just playing with and enjoying your dog instead of constantly grooming and cleaning up after him.
shih tzu later pomeranian begin to stink...
Do not pay a big price for a dog. Please go to petfinder.com There are so many that need good homes. You could get a mix. They are the best dogs. So grateful to have a loving home.
cant realy say i not a fan of small dogs in general, but I would go with the shih tzu.
i like shih tzus. my moms freind had one that was so cute. his name was bubles.
POMERANIAN!!!

I live in the Bay Area, CA. I want a Bulldog; it's difficult to find one. Where can I find an affordable one?
I would prefer a full breed English Bulldog that is affordable.
Answers:
You can go to http://www.rescuebulldogs.org if you want a rescue or go to http://www.akc.org to find a breeder close to you. All the best;^)
Try Petfinder. They often have pure bred puppies and dogs. All you have to do is put in what kind of dog and your zip code and it will tell you if there are any available.
www.petfinder.com
try www.petfinder.com
but mutts or mixes are best because they dont have as many behavioral or physical problems.
you should look at the animal pounds or animal shelters around you. they have very cute dogs of all breeds. and they are affordable. if you find a bulldog, then you should buy it there. there just waiting for a loving owner or family!
Go to www.akc.org and contact the National breed rescue. They'll put you in touch with the rescue group closest to you. You may have to wait since its not a common breed, but its the best way to get one inexpensively.
http://sf.backpage.com/buyselltrade/clas...
Keep checking here.
http://www.labrescue.org/pages/bayareash...
And here.
If you are trying to buy one from a breeder than just save up and buy a quality puppy. You can either come out of pocket on the front end for the pup, or you can come out of pocket on the other end at the vet. English bulldogs can have a number of health problems so you may want to save yourself some anguish and pay a lot more to make sure you get a healthy puppy.
You can try adopting one, they are cheaper and always up to date on shots and spayed or neutered saving you alot of money. Just please be prepared for the long term costs of owning a bully, they are not a cheap breed, health issues pop up often and due to the breed sometimes different vet techniques need to be used (like if they need to be knocked out for a procedure- riskier in bulldogs than other breeds), often special (expensive usually too) foods need to be fed to help with allergies or digestive issues, and keeping them up to date on vaccinations is very important. Something like kennel cough that another dog might just deal with a cough for a week or 2 could turn into bad pneumonia in a bulldog leading to lots of antibiotics and vet visits.

I live in texas and want a Saint Bernard?
Does anyone else live in texas with a Saint Bernard? I don't want to get one and then he/she be too hot all the time. Can they adapt to hot weather? Any personal experience with this? thanks
Answers:
Please don't be selfish and get a dog of a breed that is not adapted to your conditions. St. Bernards are Swiss dogs, adapted to mountainous conditions where it doesn't ever get above 75F to 80F and there is no humidity.
The same goes for snub-nosed dogs; they can't breathe in the heat.
If you want a big dog, check into the different breeds of mastiff.
No, I just put AC in my doghouses and I live in PA. It would be very hard if not fatal for the dog. They are cold weather animals. I have four and in the winter they don't like coming in. They love it out in the cold.
The hot temps. would be hard on a Saint, but there are things you can do to help them adapt better to the heat.
Keep the dog in doors in air conditioning. Limit outdoor time during times of high heat to potty breaks only. Take walks in the early morning and evening when the sun isn't as strong.
Keep the dog groomed good - if you brush out any loose hair on a regular basis, it's that much less hair that is holding in the heat.
Have wadding pools for swimming and cooling off...offer ice cubes as treats..tile and concrete floors are cooler for the dog to lay on..
Lot's of people have dogs that aren't meant for the environment they live in, but being aware of that and doing what you can to make the dog more comfortable goes a long way.
I live in AZ and my neighbor has 2 Saints. It is tough for them, but it can be done in a hot humid climate! Commit to not leaving the dogs outside for any length of time unless you are there and to get a large waterer and you should be ok! Any dog can live anywhere when taken care of properly! I have a large female black lab and it is hard for her here because the sun makes her coat so hot! On the other hand, my dalmation does fine here because he is mostly white. Neither are kept outside and they haev a 5 gallon LeBistro Waterer that is always full and they do just fine!
You can do it! Commit to taking good care of the dog and it will be ok!!
Good luck and I hope you get a good one! :)
Most dogs will adapt to the weather especially if you keep them indoors during the heat. But you might think of another breed that fits you and is more temp friendly.
Also, these dogs drool alot. You bet look into them fully before getting one.
Kathy
no, but i'm sure it's possible. i have 2 siberian huskies in mobile, al. of coarse they are pretty a c spoiled.

I live in southern California and I want to adopt a dog. Does anyone know of any good places to adopt from?
Answers:
Check out the Los Angeles Animal shelters they have 5 shelters throughout southern California. You can adopt a dog from there for $86. that includes shots and Spay/Neutering. And around $20 if the dog is already spayed or neutered. Here is their website...
http://www.laanimalservices.com/...
There is also the Burbank Animal Shelter, Baldwin Park Animal Shelter, Pasadena humane society, and the Lancaster shelter.
Petsmart has adoption day every saturday
yeah in huntington beach humane society, its off newland i think any how they have all kinds of dogs there just look it up.
Any local Humane Society or animal shelter run by your county or city.
If you are looking for a specific breed, there are non-profit groups that specialize in most of them. Look them up on the internet.
"Adopt" a dog? You can buy a dog at Petco. Quit making them seem like people, you liberal piece of crap! Only joking. But seriously lay of the weed.
There's one near the BLOCk. Do you know where that is? It's a shopping center. I'm sorry I forgot how to get there. It's a good place. I like how you're planning to adopt! =) Good choice.

Good for you!! I have worked with the local Humane Society for several years. It is a great organization to adopt from. Your local animal control office is also good, animals there are always desperately in need of a good home. There is also a website called Pet finder they will have listings from many different shelter and rescue groups in your area. I would also encourage everyone who wishes to adopt a pet to give some consideration to special needs pets. There is a wonderful website deafdogs.org for deaf dogs and I believe there is also one for blind dogs, maybe at blinddogs.org
Good luck.
go to www.petfinder.com lots of places to adopt from.
There is a place in CA that I do NOT reccommend. They are listed on Petfinder.. they are called Gentle Giants. If you google them, you will find alot of information about them.
http://www.petfinder.com lists 916 shelters in the state of CA
You can do a search to find one in your area.
