Chain linked fence you buy and put up from pets mart. Well im going to put cement on the bottom at a slant so water runs off when I clean it and everything. Im going to cut a whole in the fence and have a dog house built on the outside so it dosent take room, and add a canvas hammock, have any ideas to add?
Of course it comes with a tarp so hes protected from the weather. And its just to keep him in when im in school. But what other ideas do you have for em to add. I have property, the money, and time so use you imagination!

Dobermans need lots of room to run and exercise. Make sure the fence is high enough to contain him because they are smart and good jumpers!
I would fence a large part of the yard or use a bark collar to control his movements in a large field.
If you have property, money, and time - - why not fence a real backyard? Give the dobie room to run while you're away.
What are you going to do in really hot weather - weather in the mid-90's and above? That's really too hot for a dog to be outside.
And what about Cold Weather - when the temperature is below 20 - when it's too cold to keep a dog outside?
Do you have anything you could put out there for him?
Maybe a big dog house with air conditioning and a heater - and those heavy plastic flaps to keep the air in the dog house from escaping. That would work - as long as there was enough room inside the dog house for the dog to fully stand up and move around.
That's all I could think of adding.
anyway - I too would prefer a fully fence yard for my dog (I have one for mine), but I wouldn't trust mine outside all day. He'd either dig under or jump over - or someone could dog-nap him. Who knows in thie crazy world today.
So, forturnately, since I'm retired and trying my hand at writing - I'm home all day and my dog stays in the same room with me all day. He's going to be 12 and sleeps most of the time anyway.

I have a chihuahua...?
I have a chihuahua mixed with poodle and I was wondering for anyone who has one or has owned one before... Do all chihuahuas have two sets of all four fang teeth?

A lot of chihuahuas and other small breed dogs do have retained teeth, sometimes just the fangs and sometimes a lot of them will be rtained. The vet usually has to pull them.

Your dog's puppy teeth haven't fallen out yet.. Depending on how old he is. You might want to take him to the vet. If he can't get those teeth out on his own, they'll need to be removed.. They will get infected if you leave them.

It goes by the way the gene pool fell when the puppy was being formed...one thing about mixing a non shedding dog with a shedding breed is the dog usually has a mix coat, some of the hair will need to be clipped and some Will shed out , be sure to brush often because the shedding hair will mat with the non shedding hair so grooming is important.About the teeth, if all 4 canine teeth are doubled that's retained teeth...What happens when you mix a long muzzled dog like a poodle with a shorter muzzled dog like a chihuahua , you can get a shorter muzzle than the poodle but the same size teeth of the longer muzzled dog trying to fit in a mouth too small and you have crowding .it takes 3 generations for eyes and teeth to shrink or catchup when down sizing or shortening of a muzzle..When you have the dog neutered/spayed ask the vet to remove all the extra teeth while the dog is already knocked out for surgery...this will save the dogs teeth from crowding and rotting the adult teeth and also keep you from having to do a dental on your dog next year from rotting teeth...it also makes it much easier to keep the dogs teeth clean when the retained teeth are gone.Good luck

I have a chihuahua puppy. What is the best way to teach her to be alone while I am gone? Also crying?
She is about 8 weeks old and has a personality of her own. I love her and I'm glad I decided on getting this breed... It's my first puppy so I am still learning and asking for any advice.

I agree totally...I just got a chihuahua for christmas this past year and she has such a great personality. She literally lights up a room when you walk in.
As for the getting used to you not being around...
1) use a crate (mine stays in an 18"x24") and cover it with a blanket. This will become her home...and after awhile, she will see it as such and actually like it for the security it provides while you are gone.
2) introduce her to it a few minutes at a time, while you are still home, to start. She may cry and possibly howl to start. But be vigilant, she will very quickly realize within a few days that she is supposed to be there and she will not see it as separation because she will know you will come back to retrieve her soon.
3) after a while, you will be able to leave her in there when you go out for longer periods of time. And as she ages, you can slowly give her freedom to stay out of the crate when you are gone, However, I dont suggest that for the first year or so. Puppies tend to get into trouble too easily at first.
As for the crying...the crate training will help tremendously with that. Just be prepared. She will be just as persistent as you. Don't give into her crying and she will soon learn that, just like a baby...it won't always work. My puppy still whines a lot, but she has certainly matured over the last 8 months. Enjoy her and train her well, she will be your little shadow who only wants to please you for years to come!
leave her alone for a couple minutes everyday.
slowly increase the time you are gone.
The absolute best thing that you can do is to get her crate trained.
Leave her in the crate while you are gone, even if it's just to run and get the mail.
You should also have her sleep in it at night, until she gets older.

I started dumping his entire basket of toys on the floor and turning on the tv (kinda loud) before I left. While I'm gone he is to occupied to get upset that I have left him. The tv gives him the noises that he hears when your home, instead of empty silence when your away.

Have her spayed. Spaying reduces her risk for many cancers. There are plenty of Chihuahuas in shelters. Did you know, on petfinder.org alone, there are over 4,000 homeless Chihuahuas in shelters?
Her heat will last 3 weeks, and breeding her on her first heat will create problems. She'd probably end up needing a c-section, and are you prepared to spend a good $1,200-$2,000 for a c-section, that if she didn't have, she and her pups would die?
Also, you then have to worry about if she doesn't feed her pups. You'd be up every 2-3 hours a day for several weeks, having to dropper-feed puppies to keep them alive.
Have your dog spayed. It's a fraction of the cost of that c-section, and the shots/de-worming you'd have to pay for those puppies to have.

If you want another dog consider going to the shelter.

I have a Boxer ( Jake) that will be 11 in December and he is having problems holding his Urine?
I understand that this is very common in the Breed and we did have had him to the Vet about 6 months ago addressing this issue. They did give us some "Proin" but it did not seem to help or at least the dose that was given did not seem to help much? Does anyone know what is the correct amount of water he needs daily ( Jake is 80lbs). Or is Prion the only real option to help him to help with this issue.

Your best bet is calling the vet and explaining what's happening and seeing if he recommends upping the dosage of Jake's meds. Amount of water probably has little to do with the situation as your dog is a senior and sometimes they have trouble holding any amount of water. Monitor how much water you give him and show this information to the vet as well, as he will be able to give you a correct amount of water Jake should be getting for his age and size.

Dogs really don't need dog biscuits in their diet. They are high in carbohydrates and don't really do much of anything for their teeth regardless of the advertising claims.
I would dump all the treats and settle on a dog food that you want her to eat. Canned is better than kibble but kibble is better than biscuits.
Put down the food and leave it there for a half hour. If she doesn't eat it, take it up. Try it again later in the day. Keep trying it until she is hungry enough to eat. If she is healthy, she will eventually eat even while grumbling.
Always make her sit/stay, down/stay or do something for everything she wants. I would also keep her off the furniture until she loses her 'attitude' and pays attention to you.

Human food is fine. Food is food regardless of what anyone says. Food just has to be prepared with the dog's limitations and requirements in mind. Spicy foods, too much wheat, too much corn, onions, etc. can be a problem for dogs. Freshly prepared meats, a variety of vegetables, some fruits and some grains make dogs very happy.
I would ditch the highly processed, high carbohydrate 'bones' and substitute plain cooked chicken, cheese, etc. for treats.

I dont think those milkbones have all the necessary nutrients she needs to stay healthy. Stop buying the milkbones and leave her dry food out, she might have an attitude but when the hunger hits her she WILL eat the dry food.
It's really important that her diet not be all milkbones, etc. Those are not good for dogs in large quantities. Even if she takes a week to eat the dry dog food, put it out for her and lay off the milkbones so much. To give you an idea, feeding her dog biscuits is like feeding a kid candy all the time. It doesn't give her what she needs to be healthy.
Have you tried switching her dry food to something you can mix with water to make gravy? Buy the small bags of a varity of foods. If she like them great, and what she dosnt like bring to your local shelter as a donation.

Wait until her next meal time, and feed her again. No healthy dog will every starve themselves. If she won't eat her dog food, it's because you've taught her she doesn't have to - if she doesn't eat, you'll just give her something else. While you're re-training her to eat her food, don't give her any treats between meals or you'll never get this problem solved and you do want her to be healthy, right?
Yes it can be bad for her since she is not getting the proper diet. You need to be tough and set her food down and when she doesn't eat it after 15 minutes you pick it up put it away and say ol well. And put it back down again at the next feeding, and continue like that. I would stop giving the milk bones act, until she has learned that she has to eat her food. She will eat when she gets hungry enough. Just make sure she has plenty of water to drink while you are going thru this phase. You are the alpha remember that, and she needs to know that. If you truly love your dog you will find a way. I would recommend calling your vet and seeing what he says.

No, it's not good for her. If you want her to eat her dry food simply stop giving her scraps, milkbones and jumbones. When the only option for food is her dry stuff she'll eat it. No healthy dog, when hungery, will stay hungery if there is food available. Once she starts eating her dry food with regularity you can reintroduce her bones slowly but I would recommend only giving her one a day.
Picky dogs are picky because they know they can boss you around. Also try timed feedings. Put the food down for 20 min. and what ever she doesn't eat in 20 min she doesn't get. Feed her twice a day this way and I promise within two days tops, with no bones or treats to keep her fed, she will be happy to eat her dry food.
Dog treats do not provide what your dog needs to thrive and for a balanced diet, so definitely, you may want to check out a food that is more to her liking OR, don't give her treats until after she has eaten. It may take a few days of putting food out for her (do this two to three times a day- put the food down for 15 minutes and what she does not eat, even if she doesn't eat at all, take the bowl up. No treats, no food until the next feeding then repeat with just the dog food, take it up again if she doesn't eat and then nothing til her next feeding, put her food down and if she doesn't eat anything within 15 minutes, take it up. Most likely she will be hungry and eat her food by then. If she eats most of it or all of it, then give her one treat.
Repeat this and it will help her get used to treats between meals (not too many, just a few a day) and get her eating her food. Feed a good quality food that she likes the taste of.

Put down the food and leave it there for a half hour. If she doesn't eat it, take it up. Try it again later in the day. Keep trying it until she is hungry enough to eat. If she is healthy, she will eventually eat even while grumbling.
Always make her sit/stay, down/stay or do something for everything she wants. I would also keep her off the furniture until she loses her 'attitude' and pays attention to you.

Human food is fine. Food is food regardless of what anyone says. Food just has to be prepared with the dog's limitations and requirements in mind. Spicy foods, too much wheat, too much corn, onions, etc. can be a problem for dogs. Freshly prepared meats, a variety of vegetables, some fruits and some grains make dogs very happy.
I would ditch the highly processed, high carbohydrate 'bones' and substitute plain cooked chicken, cheese, etc. for treats.

I dont think those milkbones have all the necessary nutrients she needs to stay healthy. Stop buying the milkbones and leave her dry food out, she might have an attitude but when the hunger hits her she WILL eat the dry food.
It's really important that her diet not be all milkbones, etc. Those are not good for dogs in large quantities. Even if she takes a week to eat the dry dog food, put it out for her and lay off the milkbones so much. To give you an idea, feeding her dog biscuits is like feeding a kid candy all the time. It doesn't give her what she needs to be healthy.
Have you tried switching her dry food to something you can mix with water to make gravy? Buy the small bags of a varity of foods. If she like them great, and what she dosnt like bring to your local shelter as a donation.

Quite frankly, yes it is bad for her health. You need to select a top quality dry dog food, feed it to her twice a day (assuming she's an adult), give her about 20 minutes to eat, then pick it up. Wait until her next meal time, and feed her again. No healthy dog will every starve themselves. If she won't eat her dog food, it's because you've taught her she doesn't have to - if she doesn't eat, you'll just give her something else. While you're re-training her to eat her food, don't give her any treats between meals or you'll never get this problem solved and you do want her to be healthy, right?
Yes it can be bad for her since she is not getting the proper diet. You need to be tough and set her food down and when she doesn't eat it after 15 minutes you pick it up put it away and say ol well. And put it back down again at the next feeding, and continue like that. I would stop giving the milk bones act, until she has learned that she has to eat her food. She will eat when she gets hungry enough. Just make sure she has plenty of water to drink while you are going thru this phase. You are the alpha remember that, and she needs to know that. If you truly love your dog you will find a way. I would recommend calling your vet and seeing what he says.
well, human food isn't a good option. Milkbones and jumbones aren't completely nutritionally balanced for dogs, so she should eat dog food, specially a good quality food. Try stopping everything BUT dog food for a few days and see if she doesn't start to eat. Before you panic remember that a dog can actually go several days without eating at all without hurting them. When she gets hungry she'll eat.
No, it's not good for her. If you want her to eat her dry food simply stop giving her scraps, milkbones and jumbones. When the only option for food is her dry stuff she'll eat it. No healthy dog, when hungery, will stay hungery if there is food available. Once she starts eating her dry food with regularity you can reintroduce her bones slowly but I would recommend only giving her one a day.
Picky dogs are picky because they know they can boss you around. Also try timed feedings. Put the food down for 20 min. and what ever she doesn't eat in 20 min she doesn't get. Feed her twice a day this way and I promise within two days tops, with no bones or treats to keep her fed, she will be happy to eat her dry food.
Dog treats do not provide what your dog needs to thrive and for a balanced diet, so definitely, you may want to check out a food that is more to her liking OR, don't give her treats until after she has eaten. It may take a few days of putting food out for her (do this two to three times a day- put the food down for 15 minutes and what she does not eat, even if she doesn't eat at all, take the bowl up. No treats, no food until the next feeding then repeat with just the dog food, take it up again if she doesn't eat and then nothing til her next feeding, put her food down and if she doesn't eat anything within 15 minutes, take it up. Most likely she will be hungry and eat her food by then. If she eats most of it or all of it, then give her one treat.
Repeat this and it will help her get used to treats between meals (not too many, just a few a day) and get her eating her food. Feed a good quality food that she likes the taste of.

Here are some good brands, but if you switch do it gradually and add a bit of pumpkin pie filling to the diet. (few spoonfuls) This is just plain pureed pumpkin and is good for settling a dog's stomach.

You can add a few supplements to your dog food, too. Like Norwegian Cod Liver Oil, Brewer's Yeast with Garlic (powdered and formulated for dog, full of natural iron and B vitamins- great for skin and coat) and feed occasional yogurt, not in large amounts.
Well, it won't make her sick, but just eating treats is really not good for her health. Just stop giving her those treats and that will let her know that the only food option she has is her dog food! :)

if she is a puppy thats really bad because a growing puppy needs to be healthy
if she is a young adult thats still bad because if you want her to live longer then feed her dog *food* not dog treats
if she is a full adult thats,yet again,bad.it is the same answer as the above
if she is a old dog thats bad still because she might not live long and you will lose a companion
